Recap / Darkwing Duck S 1 E 12 A Revolution In Home Appliances

Go To

After overcharging himself, Megavolt discovers that he can bring machines to life. He plans to create an army to conquer St. Canard. Can the case of Honker's missing electric guitar bring Megavolt's activity to the heroes' attention before it's too late?

This episode includes examples of the following tropes:

  • Early-Installment Weirdness: Tank, who the series would later portray as a Big Brother Bully who Gosalyn understandably doesn't like or hang out with, plays drums in her garage band, along with his brother on guitar.
  • Gale-Force Sound: The noise from the kids' garage band makes the upstairs furniture jump.
  • Garage Band: Gosalyn, Honker, and Tank start a band with Gosalyn as the lead singer, Honker as the guitarist, and Tank on drums. Unfortunately for everyone else, they are high on noise and low on talent.
  • Living Battery: The appliances usurp Megavolt's command and plan to use him to supercharge machines all over the city, bringing them to life and allowing them to take over.
  • Minor Crime Reveals Major Plot: The disappearance of an electric guitar —> a plot to use appliances to take over the city. It even becomes a plot point; Darkwing, despite being bored out of his skull, refuses to investigate the disappearance of Honker's guitar, with the reason given being it's too small a case.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: Gosalyn, when trying to get the appliances to let her and Honker go, suggests that they don't have to listen to Megavolt and should make up their own minds. Unfortunately, they then decide they'd rather rule St. Canard without their "creator."
  • Shout-Out: The living television quotes several familiar TV catch-phrases — such as Walter Cronkite's, "And that's the way it is."
