"SPOOK-tacular!"

Produced 2004, aired in U.S. on 10/29/04

Production order: 15 (1-15)

In order to win a Halloween decorating competition against Dash, Danny goes to the Ghost Zone to retrieve the Fright Knight's sword, inadvertently releasing the Fright Knight himself in the process.

This episode provides examples of:

  • Alien Blood: Danny gets cut by a swinging axe trap while in ghost form, and bleeds green ectoplasmic goo.
  • All Webbed Up: Lancer gets wrapped up in the web of a giant spider brought to life by Fright Knight’s sword.
  • Attack Reflector: The Fright Knight can use his sword to reflect Danny's ghost rays.
    • The ghost eel in the Cold Open also has the ability to absorb ghost rays and send them back stronger.
  • Barehanded Blade Block: Danny catches the Soul Shredder mid-swing to disarm the Fright Knight.
  • Bedsheet Ghost: While brainstorming ideas for his room in the haunted house, Danny decides to use his ghost powers to his advantage. Apparently Danny’s not very creative though, because his plan is to essentially be a more realistic version of this.
  • BFG: The “Fenton Foamers.”
  • Bolivian Army Ending: Danny loses the bet, so the last scene of the episode is him being forced to gear up to eat Dash's underwear.
  • Booby Trap: Danny has to dodge several of these in Fright Knight’s castle, from swinging axes to spiked walls closing in on him - made even worse by the fact that ghosts can get hurt in the Ghost Zone.
  • Clothes-Eating Wager: If Danny loses the haunted house competition, he has to eat Dash’ dirty underwear. Unfortunately for him, he does indeed end up losing.
    Dash: Bon appe-tidey whitey, loser!
  • Comedic Underwear Exposure: Discussed. If Dash loses the haunted house competition, he has to run through the school parking lot in his underwear.
  • Distinction Without a Difference:
Sam: You went into the Ghost Zone and stole the Fright Knight’s sword?!
    Danny: Stole. Borrowed. Semantics.
  • Doomy Dooms of Doom: The theme of Dash’s haunted house room is “The Spa of Doom.”
  • Excalibur in the Stone: Danny pulls Fright Knight’s sword out of a jack-o-lantern to use for his haunted house room, releasing Fright Knight himself in the process.
  • "Far Side" Island: Tucker’s worst nightmare is being trapped on one of these with no technology (or any clothes).
  • Green Around the Gills: Danny when he’s about to eat Dash’s underwear, and rightfully so.
  • Halloween Episode: One in which Danny accidentally releases the spirit of Halloween.
  • Haunted House: Mr. Lancer recruits Danny and Dash to help him decorate the teacher-made haunted house as punishment for fighting in the hallway.
  • Hellish Horse: The Fright Knight rides a bat-winged, fanged ghost unicorn.
  • Humiliation Conga: At the end of the episode, Danny (along with Lancer) get splattered by the Fenton Foamer, laughed at by Mrs. Tetslaff and his fellow schoolmates, granted detention by Mr. Lancer, possibly grounded by his parents when the truth comes out, and forced to eat Dash's smelly underwear.
  • Hidden Depths: Dash, who is described as a Dumb Jock who peaks in high school, is somehow able to do the engineering needed for an animatronic horror gym.
  • Honesty Is the Best Policy: Danny is about to win the competition, but his conscience kicks in and he confesses to Lancer that he cheated.
  • Hypocritical Humor: Jack makes a remark regarding Tucker being Too Old to Trick-or-Treat:
Jack: Isn’t he a little old to be walking around in public in a stupid costume?
  • I Know What You Fear: Getting hit with the Soul Shredder teleports the victim to a dimension where they live out their worst fear. For Mr. Lancer, it's nails on a chalkboard forever. For Tucker, it's a deserted island with no clothes or technology, just pencil and paper.
  • The Juggernaut: The Fright Knight barely takes any damage from Danny, and closing the Fenton portal barely slows him down.
  • Nails on a Blackboard: Lancer’s biggest fear is having his nails scraped down a chalkboard.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: Danny steals the nightmare-creating sword of the literal Spirit of Halloween and incurs the wrath of said spirit, all just to win a haunted house contest. Although, it’s kind of justified considering the punishment if he loses.
  • No-Sell: The ghost eel at the beginning absorbs Danny's ghost ray and shoots it back as Eye Beams.
  • Pillar of Light: Danny stabs the sword into the floor and it sends up a pillar of ghostly light that meets an “ecto-storm” brewing in the sky above the school.
  • Rhyming Title
  • Scared of What's Behind You: Danny pulling the sword out of the pumpkin awakens an army of skeletons. They bow and Danny thinks they’re doing so to honor him, but really they’re doing it for Fright Knight who has appeared behind Danny.
  • Sealed Evil in a Can: If the Soul Shredder is stabbed into a pumpkin, or the image of a pumpkin, the Fright Knight and his horse get sealed away. Danny releases him from the first pumpkin by removing the sword, and seals him again by stabbing Tucker's melted pumpkin bucket.
  • Skewed Priorities: Danny keeps putting off stopping the villain for a chance to impress Mr. Lancer. Then again, considering the alternative...
  • Spirit of Halloween: Fright Knight
  • Sudden Downer Ending: It looks like Danny's going to win the contest ... right before his aforementioned Humiliation Conga.
  • Taking the Bullet: Tucker sacrifices himself to save Danny from being hit by the Soul Shredder.
  • Tempting Fate: Danny asks, “What’s the worst that could happen?” right as Fright Knight arrives in the human world.

The Fright Knight's demand

The Fright Knight doesn't do requests. He demands, and you'd better comply or else.
