Go To

Metal: Part 2 is the thirty sixth Episode in DC Universe Online, which loosely adapts the Dark Nights: Metal story line. Continuing from the previous episode, this episode introduces more of the titular Dark Knights such as the Dawnbreaker and the Drowned and brings focus to Thanagar.

Summary

In the last episode, Batman has gone missing, only to be revealed to have been kidnapped by the Batman Who Laughs to lure Superman to be used to power his spire. It turned out that all the metal the heroes and villains have been gathering was what he needed to complete his plan to bring our world into the Dark Multiverse.

Looking to stop the Dark Multiverse from spreading, Thanagar has decided to use the Phoenix Cannon to destroy Earth. Heroes and Villains must team up once again to save Earth from the Dark Multiverse, stop Barbatos and his Dark Knights and to prevent Thanagar from destroying Earth.

Tropes

  • Adapted Out: The Devastator, a combination of Batman with Doomsday serving as Superman's counterpart of the Dark Knights, is completely absent, not even appearing in the final battle. At least the Murder Machine has a mention.
  • Arc Words: "Batman always wins!"
  • Battle in the Center of the Mind: The Batscape duo focuses on entering Batman's mind to save him from Barbatos' influence.
  • Big Bad: While he was referenced to in the previous episode, "Into the Dark Multiverse" has you facing off against Barbatos himself.
  • Brainwashed and Crazy:
    • Like before, anyone affected by the metal virus. Here, some of the lanterns and Thanagarians are also affected.
    • Barbatos' influence does this to Hawkman and Hawkgirl, turning them into Forgemaster Hawkman and Lady Blackhawk respectively. He attempts this on Batman via Mind Rape, but fails.
  • The Bus Came Back: The Council of Batman return as reinforcements against Barbatos and his Dark Knights.
  • Composite Character: The Dawnbreaker and the Drowned are combinations of Batman with Green Lantern and Aquaman respectively.
  • The Ghost: The Murder Machine is mentioned by The Batman who Laughs as being their source of transport.
  • Good Counterpart: The Council of Batman serve as this to the Dark Knights.
  • It's All My Fault: The Batscape reveals that Batman is still haunted by Jason Todd's death and Barbra Gordon being crippled, both at the hands of the Joker.
  • Kryptonite Factor: Tenth Metal, which is the key to defeating Barbatos. "Into the Dark Multiverse" has you forge an armor made of it in order to face him in the final battle.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: After defeating Barbatos, he's struck with a burst of energy, which is revealed to be from the Source Wall and that said Wall is now broken. The consequences are truly felt in the next two episodes.
  • "Not So Different" Remark: The "Batman's Inner Demons" player briefs has Batman admit how similar he is to the Dark Knights in a few ways:
    • States that The Batman who Laughs has "crossed the line," but admits that he himself walks the line every time he puts on the cape and cowl.
    • Admits that he had already made plans in obtaining Ares' helmet, but despite seeing the aftermath in The Merciless, he still wants to find a way to use his power without becoming like him.
    • Wonders if he would be different from Dawnbreaker if he used willpower to take down criminals, as he would relish the ability to make his dreams a reality - but not his nightmares.
  • Shoot the Dog: The Thanagarians intend on using the Phoenix Cannon to destroy Earth to stop the Dark Multiverse from sinking in the rest of the universe. You are given missions in Thanagar in order to build a better reputation with them to convince them not to.
  • Token Female: The Drowned is a genderswapped version of Batman and is the sole female among the Dark Knights.
  • "You!" Exclamation: Done twice towards the Batman Who Laughs: First by Hawkgirl, then by Batman.
