Recap / DC Showcase: The Spectre

Go To

Hollywood mogul Foster Brenner has been murdered by a bomb placed in his pool, and Detective Jim Corrigan is on the case, complete with noir narration and a personal connection- Foster Brenner's daughter Aimee is his girlfriend. In his investigation, he discovers security camera footage of the two perps, though this doesn't make the police like him any more... or make them use the information in their case.

Late at night, one of the two men who placed the bomb, a prop-maker and monster effects specialist, is confronted by the last person he expected- the one he himself murdered. Brenner confronts the culprit about his murder before transforming into an ominous green-cloaked phantom that identifies itself as the Spectre, personification of vengeance. The Spectre kills him by possessing the various prop creatures in his workshop and having them re-enact Five Nights at Freddy's on the hapless man. The second killer is driving at night when Danger Takes A Back Seat, in the form of the Spectre. The Spectre possesses the man's car, causing it to crash and then crush him.

But the case is not yet over, as Jim Corrigan confronts Aimee at her home. While she's happy to see him, the converse is not true. Corrigan has realized that the murderers were hired by someone, who also gave them the code to get in... Aimee. She was the true mastermind behind her father's murder. Aimee grabs a gun and tries to shoot Corrigan, to no effect as the bullets simply go straight through him and break the window. Corrigan then reveals that he's been Dead All Along, and furthermore that he is the Spectre. The Spectre then kills Aimee with a tornado of razor-sharp dollar bills.

As the police arrive, Jim Corrigan leaves Aimee's mansion, phasing through a police car and the closed gate. He narrates that sometimes, Hollywood brings out the worst in people, and he's there to deal with the consequences.
