Recap / Cross Ange Ep 22 Necessary

Go To

Ange seemingly has nothing to live for after Momoka and Tusk are assumed dead. Meanwhile, Salia gets jealous of Ange and Ersha decides to leave the Diamond Rose Knights. Embryo plans to combine the two worlds together and create a new world of humanity.

Tropes in this episode include:

  • Aggressive Submissive: Despite being usually the assertive one and initiating the act. Ange lets Tusk take the lead in Their First Time.
  • Disney Death: Momoka and Tusk have survived their battle with Embryo.
  • Driven to Suicide: Ange attempts to commit suicide with a pistol during her Heroic BSoD, but it doesn't work out.
  • Due to the Dead: Ersha mourns for the children after Embryo turns on her and Nonna mourns for Marika.
  • Final Solution: Embryo tells the world leaders that he will sever the Mana network before launching the space-time convergence to kill off all lifeforms save for a new humanity he's creating.
  • Foreshadowing: Embryo abandons the world leaders by the end of the episode. Guess what he does to the remaining members of the Diamond Rose Knights in "Eve of Destruction"?
  • Glad-to-Be-Alive Sex: A variation, because in this case it's Ange who's glad that Tusk is alive after he seemingly sacrificed for her.
  • Grand Finale: Part 1 of 4, Embryo severs the Mana network and begins to merge the two Earths and Ange returns to the Aurora to join The Alliance.
  • Grey Rain of Depression: Ersha suffers a Heel Realization in the rain.
  • Heel Realization: Ersha realizes that she was used as an Unwitting Pawn.
  • Heroic BSoD: Ange goes through a major one for this episode. At least until Tusk returns.
  • Hourglass Plot: In a sense. The beginning of the series presented the World of Mana as a perfectly peaceful utopia, with Norma dubbed as violent, antisocial outcasts who rejected Mana. By now, on top of all of the revelations that have steadily come to light that have exposed the former as a Dystopia and the latter fighting for their own freedom, the disappearance of Mana has revealed the general mainland populace to be quite violent and antisocial themselves as they turn on each other, while the Norma only fight to live yet live for the livelihood of each other, as seen when Nonna is mourning for Marika, who had just been killed by Chris in the heated skirmish in "The Survivors".
  • Kinky Spanking: The episode begins with Embryo spanking Salia for her failure to capture Ange in the previous episode.
  • Love Confession: Ange finally admits to herself that she loves Tusk... right as he returns to her side as he promised. He returns the confession after Their First Time.
  • The Magic Goes Away: The Mana network is severed, causing panic and riots amongst the civilians.
  • Mass "Oh, Crap!": The citizens of Misurugi when Embryo combines the two worlds together.
  • Meaningful Echo: Tusk's words of survival is what stops Ange from being Driven to Suicide.
  • Never My Fault: Embryo blames the failure of the present world on the world leaders.
  • No FEMA Response: There's absolutely no emergency backup plan to help the Mana citizens when Embryo severs the Mana network. Considering what the Norma they discriminated against had to put up with, it's very hard to feel bad for them here.
  • Oh, Crap!:
    • The World leaders when they realize that Embryo tricked them.
    • Sylvia when the Mana network is severed.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: Ersha decides to bail out of the Diamond Rose Knights after experiencing a Heel Realization, through with Embryo's actions.
  • Shout-Out: Ange and Tusk having sex is a nod to Kira and Flay doing it aboard the Archangel in Mobile Suit Gundam SEED: Special Edition 1, right down to the animation sequence.
  • Sex God: Ange and Tusk finally have sex, it lasts three days and nights straight.
  • Sheltered Aristocrat: When Mana network is severed, Sylvia (displaced from her once mana-powered wheelchair) finds there's little she can do except call out for anybody to come to her aid.
  • Slap-Slap-Kiss: A literal example, Ange slaps Tusk twice because she can't believe he's alive and unharmed, and then shoves him to the floor and undresses them both to "make sure" and kisses him.
  • Tomato in the Mirror: While in the medical ward, Liza soberly brings up what she and the other DRAGONs know about the world of Mana: their earth is a false one full of illusion and lies. If anything, Embryo makes the mana-users despise normas because he fears their very existence will expose the truth. To say the least, Emma is put off by the idea that she and the other mana-users are basically "puppets" with no free will.
  • Their First Time: As can be seen above, this is Ange's first true sexual experience, as is Tusk's.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: Jasmine tells Jill that if the latter would have been nicer to Salia, she wouldn't have been betrayed to Embryo.
  • You Have Outlived Your Usefulness: Embryo abandons the world leaders and the World of Mana by severing the mana network and initiating the fusion of the two worlds, causing the present one to begin falling into chaos.
