These ain't no goldfish...

Maple Heights is the fifth district investigated in Criminal Case: The Conspiracy.

Still the most affluent and elite-inhabited district of Grimsborough, it seems Maple Heights hasn't changed that much in the five years the player has been away... except for the fact that most of the district has been hit by a flood following the massive earthquake that struct the city weeks ago. And with said flood, there's a new problem awaiting for everyone: a newly discovered species of venomous aquatic creatures known as the Demon Fish have infested the river and sunken sections of Maple Heights, which appear to have been deliberately set free from the underground Xerdan caves thanks to a man-made explosion underneath the city...

Maple Heights focuses on the police department attempting to contain the deadly Demon Fish currently wreaking havoc in the district and the efforts to find a cure for their deadly poison, as well as discovering who's the person responsible for freeing them into the city's water supply in the first place. At the same time, it also focuses on the team trying to find a way to infiltrate DreamLife's dome following the revelation that the mysterious object that fell from the sky a year ago isn't a satellite, but actually a meteorite DreamLife has been hiding away for unknown purposes.

    Cases set in Maple Heights
  1. Muddying The Waters: A photographer's body is washed up at a mansion after being struck with a bat.
  2. Bone of Contention: The mayor's assistant is found strangled to death in a dog shelter.
  3. Behind These Walls: The heir of a wealthy family is stabbed in the chest with a halberd in his castle.
  4. Dead Men Tell No Tales: A landlord is shot in the heart on a flooded street.
  5. Light My Fire: A retired actress is burned to death at an awarding ceremony.
  6. Blood in the Water: The city mayor is eaten alive by Demon Fish after being pushed into their tank.

Tropes:

  • Arc Villain: Dr. Ernest Emerson, a scientist who, in an effort to prove that prehistoric creatures are capable of suddenly returning to the modern world, unleashed the deadly Demon Fish into the Grimsborough river by blowing a hole in their cave, not caring about the consequences of freeing a potentially dangerous species into the city water supply and leading to the deaths of dozens.
  • A Day in the Limelight: Martine gets a great deal of focus in this district, as she is the one doing the main research on the Demon Fish and a cure for their neurotoxin.
  • Fiendish Fish: One of the main focuses of Maple Heights is dealing with the Demon Fish, an ancient species that escaped from the underground Xerdan caves into Grimsborough's river and are now wrecking havoc among its citizens. While male specimens are mostly harmless, female ones produce a deadly neurotoxin to protect their eggs.
  • The Infiltration: Half of Maple Heights focuses on the department coming up with a plan to infiltrate DreamLife's dome following the revelation that they've been hiding a meteorite underneath it all this time. In the end, it's Rupert who is chosen as the impersonator of a scientist hired by DreamLife to carry the deed.
  • Recurring Character: The main recurring characters for Maple Heights are Dr. Ernest Emerson, Lola Vallez, Ray Parker, Benjamin Fletcher, Patricia P. Harris, Dr. Mortimer Pickering, and to a lesser extent Mayor Martha Price and Celine Dernier.
  • Sunken City: Due to Grimsborough being built above a series of underground caves, the earthquake that struck the city weeks ago has sunk Maple Heights below water level, flooding most of the neighborhood with the river that surrounds it. Some flooded sections of the district are shallow enough to walk around, while others have entire buildings submerged.
  • Two Lines, No Waiting: Maple Heights focuses both on containing the deadly Demon Fish and finding an antidote for their neurotoxin, as well as formulating a plan to infiltrate DreamLife's dome and discover what they're doing with the meteorite that fell from the sky a year ago.
