Frank: I hate forests, they're crawling with bloody insects that won't budge when you scream at them!
While keeping an eye on Frank during his community service for drinking in court, him and the player come across the body of Lieutenant Nora Lewis, eaten by a giant plant in the middle of the forest.

- Abandoned Laboratory: One of the crime scenes is one, which is where the giant plant project originated from.
- Action Survivor: Jeremy Pratt, a Bear Grylls Expy who had been lost for more than a year in the forest. Then you and your amazing tracking skills manage to find him in minutes, well and alive.
- Ax-Crazy: Ray Westman seems to have gone totally insane in his efforts to protect his monstrous plant, to the point he didn't mind murdering a soldier just to protect it.Ray: I took advantage of her inattention, I grasped the gun away from her, and I striked her head with all my strength! - Beard of Barbarism: Jeremy Pratt sports one due to being missing in the forest for a year.
- Blackmail: Chief Marquez does this to Spangler after he arrests Hannah for treason, threatening to reveal everything about Project A.U.D.R.E.Y. to the media if he doesn't let her go. She does this again when trying to recover her laptop during the Additional Investigation.
- Call-Back: Erikah Mabayo reappears as a suspect.
- Caring Gardener: Ray Westman, the scientist that made the monster plant grow and has been taking care of it, loves it so much he even named it Julian. He also killed Nora when he believed she was going to harm it.
- Continuity Nod: Judge Dante mentions Judge Hall during the killer's trial.
- Drill Sergeant Nasty: Colonel Spangler, the one in charge of the nearby military base where the victim was from, is quite unpleasant and hot-tempered towards the Police Department in general.
- Drinking on Duty: The reason why Frank is forced to do community service.Frank: Oh, yeah, you can laugh, <Player's Name>, but you know my Gold Stag is sacred to me! No one touches it, not even the Judge!
- Evilutionary Biologist: Both Sally Perkins, CEO Pacific Pharma, and Colonel Spangler, want to put their hands onto Project A.U.D.R.E.Y., an old scientific project that made plants grow to monstrous levels, to apply it to humans in an effort to create Super Soldiers no matter the cost.
- Hero Does Public Service: The case starts with Frank being forced to clean the forests of the bayou as a community service punishment for drinking on court.
- Instantly Proven Wrong: Just when Frank tells you to stop looking for Jeremy since it's impossible to find him, he appears right in front of you.
- Man-Eating Plant: The victim was feed to one after being rendered unconscious with a Tap on the Head.
- Noodle Incident: After Hannah gets arrested by Spangler for violating military security, she says this isn't the first time she's been put in a cell for getting her hands on critical information.

- Jeremy Pratt is based on Bear Grylls, and his appearance is based on Alan Parrish after emerging from the cursed game Jumanji.
- Colonel Spangler resembles Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart, and is named after Commandant Spangler.
- In the Plants scene, there is an iPad.
- In Experimentation Room, there's a velociraptor pretending to be a lab specimen, like the one in Jurassic Park III. There's also another reference to Jurassic Park in the "Laboratory Equipment" scene with the Arc Words 'Life Finds A Way'.
- Also in the Experimentation Room is a drawing of Albert Einstein.
- The military project related to the giant plant is called Project A.U.D.R.E.Y.
- Skip to the End: Frank asks Judge Dante to sentence the killer after the latter starts to ramble about his fondness for plants.Honorable Dante: I myself am very fond of my plants. And if you weren't such a despicable killer, I would have invited you to my botany society. You see...Frank: Judge, can you please hurry up with the verdict before we all wither and die?
- Suddenly Shouting: The player character is implied to lose their patience and yell at Frank when he's reluctant to help with a clue.Frank: Alright, alright, I'll help out, don't yell! That bag looks pretty straightforward, let's have a look inside.
- Voodoo Doll: Erikah made plenty of the victim after she tried to disrupt her business for being "uncivil", cursing her with stomachaches.
