Towards a new beginning.

New Haven is the first district investigated in Criminal Case: Mysteries of the Past.

A run-off-the-mill part of the city characterized for its docks where thousands of immigrants arrive looking for a better life in the United States, New Haven focuses on the player adjusting themselves to their new life in Concordia and their new teammates in the Flying Squad, all while peace is suddenly disturbed when a man-made fire breaks out and razes almost the entire district to the ground. At the same time, it also deals with the Squad investigating an operation of Irish immigrants being sold to rich people for cheap labor and its possible connections with a revered priest inside of the community.

    Cases Set in New Haven
  1. Welcome to Concordia!: An immigration officer is poisoned with arsenic and dies at the docks of Concordia.
  2. Slash and Burn: An Irish immigrant is stabbed to death while a fire rapidly destroys the district.
  3. In the Line of Fire: A fireman is shot in the back while trying to put out the fire of a blazing police station.
  4. A Murder Carol: A street thug has his head bashed in within a back alley during Christmas Eve.
  5. Shear Murder: A businessman is stabbed with a pair of garden shears inside of his own greenhouse.
  6. In the Name of the Father: A priest is shot, then sliced in a half by a train on the tracks of a train station.

Tropes:

  • Arc Villain: Edward Whimple, a corrupt police officer behind both the operation involving Irish immigrants being sold to rich people for cheap labor and the man-made fire that almost destroyed the entire district in an effort to dispose of the evidence incriminating him, all while using Father Donovan as The Scapegoat for his actions.
  • The Bad Guys Are Cops: A recurring theme throughout the district is that the Concordian Police Department (not to be confused with the Flying Squad, which is the team the player works with and was assembled with the purpose of eradicating corruption inside of the police force) appears to be rotten to the core, as many police officers are either exposed or arrested for corruption and even the Arc Villain turns out to be part of the Department.
  • Made a Slave: One of the district's focuses is investigating an operation where Irish immigrants are "given" to the elite to work as what are basically slaves, since said elite puts them through the hardest jobs and even refuses to pay them accordingly.
  • The Migration: New Haven is most famous for receiving thousands of immigrants in Concordia, most of which are Irish. Unfortunately, their dream of acquiring a much better life in America is mostly rendered moot when they are forced to live in poverty, face discrimination, or work as slaves.
  • Recurring Character: The main recurring characters for New Haven are Edward Whimple, Father Donovan, Commissioner Talmadge Baldwin, Seamus O'Neill, and Vinnie Costa.
  • Watching Troy Burn: An early-game subplot involves dealing with a man-made fire breaking out in New Haven and destroying a good portion of the district, which was provoked by accident as the responsible was just trying to dispose of paperwork in the Police Department's evidence room but the fire got out of control.
