At least the dummy doesn't mind the Annoying Arrows.

After being informed by Constable Ramirez that a train has been derailed in the middle of the desert, Isaac and the player rush to the scene to see what could've provoked such event. There, both officers see not only the gold-carrying train derailed by multiple boulders placed in the tracks, but also the body of Irish gangster Danny Dedalus impaled with multiple arrows.

Tropes:

  • Added Alliterative Appeal: The victim's name was Danny Dedalus.
  • The Alcoholic: Gibby Hayes, a crazy old man who lives in a shack in the middle of the desert and is locally known as an "authentic frontier drunk and madman".
  • The Atoner: When you talk to Vinnie in prison, he says he wishes to atone for killing an innocent man on behalf of the Irish gang, as such will help the Flying Squad by testifying against Vittorio.
  • Awful Wedded Life: Dorothy explains how Danny, her ex-husband, only married her for her money and then the only things he did were drinking, gambling, and sleeping around with prostitutes, which is why she kicked him out of home.
  • Bizarre Taste in Food: Gibby offers you a plate of beans with prairie dog when you speak with him, which disgusts Isaac.
  • Call-Back: Seamus O'Neill, Vittorio Capecchi, and Dorothy McBain reappear as suspects.
  • Continuity Nod: Seamus mentions how he fell in love with Giulietta after he met her in the Flanagan's distillery.
  • Cooperation Gambit: Isaac and the player propose to Vinnie testify against Vittorio and his shady business in the district to receive pardon for murdering Benjamin and getting out of prison, which he agrees to after you deliver to him some money to escape from Concordia since the Italians will want him dead.
  • Gold Digger: Dorothy accuses her ex-husband of being this, claiming that he only married her for her money and, after they got divorced, Danny sent threats to Dorothy claiming that he would steal all of her gold, which he eventually did in this case and led to Dorothy murdering him.
  • Gold Fever: The case's main theme is that gold can drive people crazy, as Danny derailed a train so he could steal all of its gold cargo, Dorothy murdered him to protect her gold, and Gibby became an alcoholic old man after leaving his home behind to participate in Coyote Gorge's gold rush.
  • Human Pincushion: When you find the victim, he's been impaled by multiple arrows all over his body.
  • Implausible Deniability: Vittorio refuses to confess that his goons have been forcibly kicking people out of their homes to steal their lands despite the astounding amount of implication you've found ever since you arrived to the district.
  • Improbable Aiming Skills: One of the killer's traits is that they are a sharpshooter, since they managed to impact the victim multiple times without missing a single arrow.
  • It's Personal: According to Dorothy, the reason why she decided to take matters on her own hands when she discovered the train carrying her gold was being robbed is because the thief was none other than her ex-husband, whom she held a grudge against.
  • I Just Want to Be Free: Erica became a railroad driver for this reason, refusing to keep being a prostitute in Sinner's End after being kicked out of home.
Erica: When my uncle and auntie kicked me out of their house, the only place left for me was one of the brothels...
But I broke free and came out East to live by my own rules, under a great big sky!
  • Non-Lethal K.O.: The victim knocked out Erica with a punch before proceeding to steal the train's gold, and according to her, Danny was already dead when she woke up.
  • Not Proven: Despite everything pointing at the fact that the Italian mafia has been kicking people out of their homes by force to steal their lands and then sell them, the lack of solid proof makes it impossible for the Flying Squad to do anything against them or their leader, much to their frustration.
Vittorio: If people want to give me their houses and leave, I should be free to sell them! I've got the deeds! Everything's legal!
Isaac: There's nothing legal about any of this! People aren't giving anything to you! We know you had Vinnie Costa threaten and kill Mr Galls!
    Vittorio: Davvero? Where's your proof?
  • The Oldest Profession: Erica Dupri used to be a prostitute in Sinner's End before deciding to quit and become a train driver instead.
  • Official Couple: This case confirms that Giulietta and Seamus are officially going out after their brief Ship Tease in Case 21.
  • Out of Job, into the Plot: Thanks to the Irish gang being currently leaderless due to the Flanagan siblings no longer being active, Seamus had to leave Sinner's End and try to make a new life in Coyote Gorge, especially since Giulietta is also living there.
  • Prank Injuries: Dick uses an arrow headband to scare Isaac and the player during the autopsy report.
Isaac: Do you really think that it is appropriate to be wearing such a head garment given how the victim was murdered?
Dick: I suppose not, but I hardly think he minds...
  • Precious Photo: Seamus carries a locket with a photo of Giulietta, which is how you discover they're in a relationship.
  • Railroad Plot: Continuing from the previous case´s revelations, it turns out that the Italians are forcibly evicting people from their homes so they can "buy" the land then sell it to the Concordia Railroad Company to make millions in profit.
  • Shout-Out:
  • Star-Crossed Lovers: Maddie sees Seamus and Giulietta's relationship as this, believing that neither of their families will approve such romance due to to coming from enemy factions.
  • Tempting Fate: At the end of the case, once Vinnie has agreed to testify against the Italians:
What Isaac Says: We've let Vinnie out of prison under guard, and we'll keep him safe in the town of Providence until Vittorio's trial! We're finally going to put Capecchi behind bars, <Player's Name>!
    Translation: Vinnie's a goner.
  • The Straight and Arrow Path: Despite Coyote Gorge being located in The Wild East, the killer opted for using a bow and arrows to kill the victim rather than a easily available gun.
  • Til Murder Do Us Part: Danny was killed by Dorothy, his ex-wife.
  • Toilet Humour: When Viola informs you that one of the killer's traits is that they eat beans, Isaac jokes that you'll probably hear the murderer before seeing them.
  • Toxic Friend Influence: Seamus, who was friends with the victim, claims that tried to convince him to rob the train along him while Seamus wanted to stop him, since doing such a stunt on Italian territory was a stupid thing to do.
  • Track Trouble: The case starts with a train full of gold being derailed after the victim placed heavy boulders on the tracks.
  • Train Job: This is why the victim placed boulders on the train tracks: to derail the vehicle and steal his ex-wife's gold as a revenge for leaving him.
