Remember to not use your own children for political gain.

While Chief King is berating Jones in his office, a phone call from Grace makes you rush to a nearby beauty parlor, where you find the corpse of Abigail Price, Martha Price's daughter, cooked to death with a laser.

Tropes:

  • Accidental Murder: Sabrina, Abigail's best friend, wanted an urine sample from her to pass he medical exam for Harvard, but when she refused Sabrina tried to threaten her with the hair removal laser, which accidentally killed her.
  • Alliterative Name: The beauty technician, Charlene Cody.
  • Blackmail: Serena had been blackmailing Martha about her daughter's Teen Pregnancy since it would destroy her conservative political campaign.
  • Call-Back: Serena Johnson and Martha Price reappear as suspects.
  • Chromosome Casting: This is the only case in Grimsborough (and the only case in the franchise until Season 7) in which the victim and the suspects are all female. In addition, Grace replaces Jones as your partner, which means you'll only see male characters outside of analyzes at the beginning and at the end of the case.
  • Continuity Nod:
    • The boardwalk reappears as a crime scene.
    • Lola Vallez' mansion appears as a crime scene, as the victim had attended her hen party.
  • Cope by Pretending: During Martha's sidequest in the Additional Investigation (which involves finding her lost purse with a photo of her daughter on it), you discover she has been doing this about Abigail.
Martha: Let me see it! Let me see if nothing is missing!
    Thank God, it's still there!
Abigail... My little cutie pie... I was so focused on my work, I didn't have time to...
    Grace: Oh, Mrs. Price...
Martha: Ahem! It's OK... It's OK. I'm really thankful you found my purse.
  • A Day in the Limelight: Grace gets to be your partner for this case since Jones has been relegated to paperwork duty as a punishment.
  • Death Ray: How the victim was killed, with a hair removal laser of all things.
  • Department of Redundancy Department: You find a friendship necklace with the inscription "Abby & Sabby, BFF 4 EVAH!".
Grace: The inscription means "Best Friends Forever... forever". I guess they really wanted to get the point across.
  • Dumb Blonde: Charlene Cody, the beautician at the beauty parlor. In the Additional Investigation, you find out she mistook Nuoc Mam for a facial lotion.
  • Faint in Shock: Martha's reaction upon seeing her daughter dead.
  • Fake High: Veronica Johnson had been selling fake drugs to Abigail's best friend Sabrina, who supposedly needed them to stay widely awake for her university exams. They worked not because they were drugs, but a mixture of talc and caffeine.
  • Fan Disservice: At the crime scene, a bit of Abigail's panties are visible...and so is her ribcage.
  • Forgotten Fallen Friend: Subverted. During the case, it seems like Martha has got over the death of her daughter very quickly, opting to use her death as a political tool instead of grieving about it. However, during the Additional Investigation, you find out that she's been deeply affected by it.
  • Improvised Weapon: The victim was killed with a hair removal laser set at maximum power.
  • Incorruptible Pure Pureness: Abigail was the president of her high school's Purity Fellowship, hence why she became the face of Martha's conservative campaign about pure teens. Then you find out she was pregnant.
  • Instantly Proven Wrong: After you and Grace find a flyer about Serena and Martha's presidential debate.
Grace: No, I doubt Martha will be able to speak today... Not after such a tragedy.
Wait, what's that, <Player's Name>? You can see Martha Price over there?
I can't believe it!!! How can she be back on the job within a few hours of her only daughter's death?
  • Lack of Empathy: Grace accuses Martha of this after the latter uses her daughter's death to boost her political campaign, but we later learn that she's in fact heartbroken.
  • Laughing at Your Own Jokes: Grace likes to do this.
Grace: We'd better have a closer look at that seafood platter, too... Something seems mighty fishy about it! Hehehe!
  • Outliving One's Offspring: Abigail dies before her mother Martha does.
  • Say My Name: Martha does this upon discovering her daughter's body.
  • Secret Secret-Keeper: At the end of the case, Chief King congratulates you in person for your work but criticizes Grace due to how she treated Serena. When Grace asks you how the meeting with King went...
Grace: So, <Player's Name>, how did it go? Did, uh, did the Chief say anything about me?
He didn't say anything? Oh, that's a relief!
  • Shout-Out:
    • A mentioned brand, Kimmy Poo, is a parody of Jimmy Choo.
    • In the Treatment Room scene, The Great Wave off Kanagawa is visible.
      • The Zen Corner and Boardwalk scenes have a parody of the same painting.
    • In the Boardwalk scene, the famous Uncle Sam poster is visible.
  • Teen Pregnancy: Abigail became pregnant while being president of the Purity Fellowship and the face of her mother's purity campaign, which is why she had to keep it a secret and get an abortion despite her mother and political stance prohibiting it.
  • Wounded Gazelle Gambit: Sabrina breaks down in tears after you inform her about the murder despite she being the perpetrator.
