Isn't that punishment a little too hard?

Student and corporation heir Tyler Wright is found dead with stab wounds in the Dean's office. Furthermore, previously arrested murderer Mikhail Levin has escaped from prison and is now on the loose in the Grimsborough's University campus.

Tropes:

  • Alliterative Name: The @rtist's real name is Cathy King, who is also Chief King's Granddaughter.
  • Always Gets His Man: Bryan Vigman, the security officer of the University, likes to pretend he is this, though in reality almost no one has respect for him.
  • Blank Stare: Nathan's reaction after he tells you what kind of marker the killer used to write "CHEATER" on the victim's forehead and Jones responds.
Jones: EVERMARK? As in the permanent marker commercial with the unicat singing "Caaan't faade awayyy"? I could watch it a hundred times in a row!
    Nathan: Unbelievable, Jones...
  • Blind Date: Alex thinks his date with Cathy is this, since according to him she just came to him and asked him out without they knowing each other. It's not until later in the case that he discovers Cathy is The @rtist, the very same girls he's been talking to since the beginning of the district.
  • Boyfriend-Blocking Dad: Grandparent in this case, but as soon as Chief King learns that Alex has a date with his granddaughter, he starts chasing him declaring he won't allow it.
  • The Bus Came Back: Mikhail Levin reappears after being incarcerated all the way back to Case 5.
  • Call-Back: Mikhail Levin, Dean Donna Walker, and The @rtist return as suspects.
  • Continuity Nod:
  • Consummate Liar: Jones gives some props to Mikhail for managing to evade most of the Lie Detector's questions, agreeing that he knows how to lie.
  • Control Freak: Bryan shows signs of this, believing he should have control of every student's life to protect them. Which includes murdering them if they are shown to be rule-breakers.
  • Dramatic Irony: You discover that The @rtist is Chief King's granddaughter Cathy, something he clearly doesn't know.
  • Disguised in Drag: How Mikhail managed to escape from prison. See here.
  • Disproportionate Retribution: Bryan Vigman, the security officer of the University, discovered that the victim was about to share the answers of a quiz in social media. His solution? Kill him.
Jones: You seriously believe cheating is punishable by DEATH?! You really ought to think it over when you're in prison!
  • Face Doodling: In a dark example of this trope, the killer wrote "CHEATER" on the victim's forehead after killing him.
  • Foreshadowing: Throughout the case, Chief King seems more agitated than normal and urges you to catch Mikhail, with Jones even noticing how desperate he sounds. Later, you find out he's got a granddaughter studying at University.
  • Great Escape: Mikhail escapes from prison after his arrest by dressing as a girl.
  • Hacker Cave: One of the crime scenes is The @rtist's hideout, which is a room full of computers and servers.
  • Last-Second Word Swap: After you and Jones meet Cathy AKA The @rtist in Chief King's office.
Jones: I...I'm sorry, Chief, haha! It's just... I didn't expect your granddaughter to be the @r...dorable woman she is!
  • Obsessed with Food: Stuart, School Newspaper News Hound, asks if Jones never thinks about anything else than eating.
  • Only One Name: Subverted. During the case you learn that The @rtist is named Cathy and only that, leading you to believe you'll only know her first name for some time... until the very next scene, where Chief King presents you her granddaughter: Cathy King.
  • The Reveal: You finally discover who is The @rtist: Chief King's granddaughter, Cathy.
  • Rose-Haired Sweetie: You get to see The @rtist without her mask, revealing that she has dyed pink hair.
  • School Newspaper News Hound: Stuart O'Neill, who somehow manages to write and publish an article about Tyler's murder mere hours after his death.
  • Shout-Out:
    • In the Dean's Office scene, there is a pink version of the Tesseract.
    • In the Dean's Desk scene, there is a Connect Four game.
    • In the Training Mats scene, there is a bobblehead of Lionel Messi as well as Jason's mask.
    • Donna Walker mentions Dana Winter.
  • Spoiled Brat: Tyler was one, since he was the heir of a very important company in Grimsborough and, since he didn't need to study, only made life hell for everyone in school, including his teachers.
  • There Is No Kill Like Overkill: According to Nathan, Tyler was stabbed thirty-six times with a knife.
  • Woman Scorned: Tyler cheated on Cathy while they were dating, leading her to hack his Friendnet profile and mock his death.
  • Wounded Gazelle Gambit: Bryan Vigman, the one who killed Tyler Wright, is also the one that reported his body to the authorities.
