Chief King: The girl was identified as Aaliyah Banks, a second year student. People saw her floating on the lake... in a pool of blood.

After a spring break party, the body of student Aaliyah Banks is found floating in a lake with her lower body half-eaten.

Tropes:

  • Beach Episode: Most of the case is set on a lake where the University students were having a spring break party and at least half of your suspects are seen with beach clothes.
  • Blatant Lies: After Chief King asks you if you've already checked the gas station for clues, Jones responds that they were just about to do that.
  • Comically Missing the Point: After Alex analyzes the camera that captured the killer.
Alex: There sure was! It's fleeting, but I managed to pause the video on one key moment. Look!
Jones: A zoom on boobs. Lovely.
  • Call-Back:
  • Continuity Nod:
  • I Did What I Had to Do: Taylor says this during her Motive Rant as the reason why she killed Aaliyah.
Taylor: The lake... the lake is getting more polluted everyday. Soon people won't be able to fish there anymore. I knew I had to do something to wake people up!
Jones: So you decided to release the deadliest kind of fish there is into the lake?!
Taylor: I thought if students got hurt, they wouldn't dare party around the lake anymore. Sure, the piranhas would harm the local fauna, but surely the authorities would catch them in time!
I'd seen those piranhas in the Biology amphitheater before. I knew they were ferocious, the most ferocious kind there is.
I went there before class, when there was nobody around. I picked them up with the fish scooper and I put them in a cooler. I was so afraid they'd die during the trip!
Jones: But you didn't just want students to get hurt, did you? You wanted to set an example!
Taylor: It was all Aaliyah's fault! She shouldn't have been so... so... She should have cared more!
I used to think she was like me! But she only cared about her reputation! Once she realized doing protests wouldn't get her elected as Prom Queen, she stopped helping me!
I called her over at the lake, to test her, to see if she would rally my cause. But when I saw the way she gaped, when she saw the piranhas, I knew she would only scream for help. So I...
I did what I had to do.
  • Everyone Has Standards: Even if Jones' extremely naive and prone to easily fall in love, even he refuses to look at Kurt's footage of the university students during their lake party.
Kurt: Look, there's something... there's something on that camera you'll really want to see, too.
Jones: If it's students' breasts, no thank you. I'm too old for these things.
  • Five-Second Foreshadowing: After Taylor is arrested, Jones begins to wonder why the things she said during her trial sounded so familiar right before Alex gives you The Reveal.
  • Foreshadowing: You learn that Madison is a candidate for the Queen of the Prom Ball and Chad wants to ask her out for it.
  • Jerk Jock: Chad Baker starts showing shades of this, saying he's uninterested in people who don't like football and that's why he didn't care about the victim. Seems like becoming the new quarterback for his football team inflated his ego.
  • The Peeping Tom: Kurt Leary, a cameraman who films beach and lake parties for his "Babes in Bikinis" night TV show. However, he does manage to catch the killer with his camera.
  • Pet Monstrosity: Nathan briefly adopts one of the piranhas that killed the victim, much to Jones' chagrin.
Nathan: Why, I wasn't about to let a poor fish die, was I? Look how happy it is in its tank! I called him Brutus.
Jones: Everyone around me is mad. That's the only explanation...
  • Piranha Problem: The victim died due to piranhas eating her lower body, which were released on the lake by her killer after knocking her unconscious and drawing blood from her leg.
  • The Reveal: You find out that the murders of Case 32, Case 35, and this one have been orchestrated by a Serial Killer on the loose.
  • Shout-Out:
  • Skewed Priorities: Michael Fletcher, the owner of the stolen piranhas used to kill Aaliyah, is more concerned about seeing what kind of damage they did to her body that the fact she's dead.
  • Soapbox Sadie: Taylor Kirby, a nature activist who throws paint at Jones since her requests to shut down spring break parties at the lake weren't being heard. The victim was actually part of the same group as her, but Taylor killed her after she found out Aaliyah only did it to boost her reputation to gain votes for the Prom Queen election.
  • Stop Saying That!: Madison says this to Jones after he recalls he's an Amish, even referring to it as "the A-word."
  • I Was Beaten by a Girl: Jones mocks Ramirez with this after Taylor knocks him over to escape the station.
  • Wham Line: Alex gives you this one after he examines the Rorschach test left at the crime scene and recalls how you also encountered them in previous cases.
Alex: I think what you have here, <Player's Name>, is... the proof that a serial killer is on the loose in Grimsborough!! A serial killer who uses other people to kill, what's more!
