Written & storyboarded by Jason Dwyer & Tiffany Ford

The Timekeeper of the Creek runs off after she misses her call, and Craig, J.P., and Kelsey try to take her place.

Tropes:

  • 10-Minute Retirement: Because of failing to sound the time once, Beth quits as Timekeeper. Craig finds her and convinces her that she needs to be Timekeeper again, saying that she shouldn't let one mistake define her, and offers his friendship whenever she feels lonely.
  • An Aesop: You shouldn't give up on what you do best just because of one failure.
  • Attention Deficit... Ooh, Shiny!: The trio fail at their job of filling in for the Timekeeper due to their short attention spans.
  • Cell Phones Are Useless: The whole Creek are reliant on the Timekeeper to alert when it's time for dinner, even though basically all of them have smart phones. Supposedly most of their batteries are almost dead by this time of day and their attention spans are too short to check the time. Kelsey has the sense to set an alarm, which she ignores for fifteen minutes.
  • Chekhov's Gun: When Craig takes the Timekeeper's place, he finds that the only part of the creek visible from her post is the meadow. That's how he figures out that Beth went there when they go look for her later.
  • Clock Discrepancy: Because the Timekeeper forgot to reset her watch for Daylight Savings, she failed to sound dinner time, making everyone late.
  • Disappointed in You: When Craig explains what happened when he came home late for dinner.
Craig: My parents weren't mad. They were disappointed.
(J.P., Kelsey, and Mortimor are horrified)
  • Drowning My Sorrows: Bobby drowns his sorrows in juice boxes at the trading post, over getting grounded for being late for dinner two days ago.
  • Given Name Reveal: The Timekeeper lets the trio know her name is Beth. They're apparently the first ones in the Creek she's told, as she talks with others so little she never even knew they were calling her "Timekeeper".
  • In Another Man's Shoes: Craig, Kelsey, and J.P. each spend a day as the Timekeeper. Craig is tremendously bored, but signals at the right time. J.P. gets distracted by a bug and accidentally signals early. Kelsey signals late because she was too caught up in a book to notice her phone's alarm. All agree that it's a difficult job that they're glad Beth usually handles.
  • Insistent Terminology: Beth's instrument is a sousaphone, not a tuba.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: Beth clearly shows this on her face when all the other kids become late for dinner due to her forgetting to reset the time for Daylight Savings.
  • My Greatest Failure: Beth considers her neglect to reset the time for Daylight Savings as this, to the point she quits being Timekeeper because of it.
  • You Are Better Than You Think You Are: The trio tell this to Beth in order to convince her to be the Timekeeper again.
  • You Are Grounded!: The consequence for every kid in the creek who is late for dinner is to be grounded for a day by their parents.
