"It is so nice not to be out with those old ladies and their stupid hats."

A Plot: Hank bribes Brent and Davis into taking him to see the latest blockbuster — Raptor Man 2. However, Brent and Davis planned on seeing it together, so Hank has to feign ignorance to avoid hurting anyone's feelings.

B Plot: Emma invites Lacey to join a women’s club, although Lacey feels she won't fit in. After a few meetings, Lacey then worries that she fits in too well.

C Plot: Oscar finally gets a sidewalk put in front of his house, and Karen is forced to protect it from Wanda.

Tropes referenced:

  • Description Cut: When Wanda makes fun of Lacey's old-style blouse, Lacey claims she went shopping with the Purple Hats and they insisted she buy it. Cut to the shopping trip, where Lacey finds the blouse and is excited about it, while Emma tries to talk her out of it.
  • Entertainingly Wrong:
Hank: You got any scotch mints?
Lacey: [freaking out] Why? Because I'm old? Because I like to do old lady things?
Hank: No, because the bowl is empty.
  • Evil Laugh: Wanda goes for one a few times when describing her plans to write in the cement.
  • Exact Words: Wanda offers to watch the sidewalk while Karen takes a break, and Wanda promises that "no kid will touch it". This is, of course, just an excuse to get Karen to leave so Wanda can touch it. She even writes in the cement "No Kids Touched It. Wanda Strikes Again."
  • Feeling Their Age: Lacey does not want to accept that she could possibly belong in the Purple Hats, a group of old ladies. She only joins because she mistakenly believes Karen has joined too.
  • Fun with Acronyms: Davis has seen all the "WANDA"s in the cement, but always assumed it was an acronym for something. He comes up with a few on the spot, such as "Western Association of Non-Developed Agencies" or "Wizards Against Naked Dancing in Alberta".
  • Humble Pie: Lacey is forced to line dance with the Purple Hats at the bar. She is absolutely terrible at it, and Brent and Oscar tease her.
  • Incredibly Obvious Bug: Wanda holds a tape recorder in her jacket and tries to get Emma to say specific things in order to splice it later as a distracting phone call to Oscar. Emma figures out what she's doing pretty quickly, but then willingly goes along with it because she's perfectly okay with tricking Oscar.
  • Instantly Proven Wrong: Fitzy tells Oscar that his house is on "the list" for places to get sidewalks and they'll get to it in three years. Oscar immediately points out that Fitzy looked at a blank piece of paper, forcing him to admit he has no idea when it's going to be done.
  • Karma Houdini: Hank's Blackmail of Brent and Davis gets found out, but aside from a few disapproving stares from those two, he pretty much gets off scot-free.
  • Mugging the Monster:
    • A kneeling worker has just finished fixing the cement that Wanda defaced:
Worker: I saved your butt once. I ain't coming back again.
Oscar: [threateningly] Yes you will! I pay my taxes!
[The worker stands up and he is MUCH bigger than Oscar.]
    Worker: What did you say?
Oscar: Nothing. I- I was just talkin' about my taxes.
Karen: Could you rile up a bigger guy?
Oscar: He looked a lot smaller when he was kneeling.
  • Pun-Based Title: From the cinema phrase "coming attractions", referencing the Raptor Man 2 plot and Wanda distracting those who are guarding the wet cement.
  • Shout-Out:
    • While Brent and Davis are geeking out about Raptor Man 2, Karen tells them they should put on their Spock ears and go together.
    • This conversation:
Lacey: Isn't that cute? Old gals sittin', havin' a hoot?
Wanda: Who are you, Dr. Seuss?
    • After the Incredibly Obvious Bug moment above, Emma refers to Wanda as Spanky.
  • That Came Out Wrong: Emma has just invited Lacey to join the Purple Hats:
    Lacey: Why me?
    Emma: Because you're fun.
Lacey: Yeah. Yeah, but I mean the group is geared more towards women of a certain oldness.
    [Emma stares at her]
Lacey: That didn't come out right. I mean, um... I'm stuck on "oldness".
  • The Cameo: By Dog the Bounty Hunter in the Cold Open, as part of an Imagine Spot for Brent.
  • The Friend Nobody Likes: This actually turns out to be the case with Lacey and the Purple Hats. Lacey makes a big stand by intentionally wearing a yellow hat and ranting about being too young for the group, but after she storms away all the ladies laugh and remark how happy they are she left.
  • Wet Cement Gag: The C Plot, in which Wanda has been writing her name in wet cement for years, and plans to continue the tradition with Oscar's new sidewalk.
