A Plot: When Dog River inherits a town bell, the citizens fight over who gets to ring it, causing a literal cacophony. To solve this problem, Hank is given the task of ringing the bell every hour, on the hour - something he finds surprisingly difficult!

B Plot: After trying French Press coffee at home, Oscar and Emma become addicted to it and can no longer stand the swill Lacey’s pouring at The Ruby. When their pretensions start brewing discord in the diner, Lacey decides to put their snobbery to the test. Soon after, the press is mysteriously broken, and it seems like the only one that can solve the case is Karen, who's been recording everyone's fingerprints by stealing coffee cups and used napkins.

C Plot: Brent is puzzled by some erratic behavior Wanda’s exhibiting and tries to get to the root of it, revealing a surprise from her past.

  • Be Careful What You Wish For: Hank is enthusiastic to become Dog River's "Ringmaster". However, after a day of having to interrupt other hobbies to ring the bell, as well as ring it for emergencies that include "a lost remote control" and "ran out of butter making butter tarts", he purposely gets himself fired.
  • The Complainer Is Always Wrong: Throughout the episode, Karen wants to modernize the police station by implementing fingerprint records, and Davis keeps telling her it's a waste of time. At the end of the B Plot, when the fingerprints only identify a Red Herring and spy-Wanda has photographic proof of who broke the French Press, Davis gives her a smug I-Told-You-So.
  • Description Cut: When Fitzy announces that the city was willed a church bell by a wealthy mogul that enjoyed his time in the town, Wanda is in disbelief that someone had a good time in Dog River. A flashback then shows that said mogul intended to give the bell to Wullerton after a horrible time in Dog River, with a cut back to the present having Fitzy add that he was going senile before dying.
  • Didn't Think This Through: The first time Hank is told to ring the bell for an emergency, it's due to someone's cat going missing; after Hank rings it, the cat owner asks what's supposed to happen next, and Hank has no clue. Later, during the B Plot, Davis explains that he's on the French Press case because Oscar told Hank to ring the bell, which signaled Davis to meet with Hank, who told him to meet Oscar at the Ruby; Davis then remarks that it was all a lot more complicated than just calling the station.
  • Exact Words: When Hank regrets becoming the "Bellboy" and wants to quit, Fitzy states that the town's starting to rely on him, as well as how Hank promised he'd "never stop ringing" when he volunteered for the job. So, in order to get himself fired, Hank literally rings the bell non-stop until Fitzy gets fed up with him.
  • Hidden Depths: Apparently, Hank's hobbies include model plane making, kite flying, and pottery, based on the activities we see him do before he gets interrupted by his alarm to ring the bell. He remarks that he picked a horrible day to start so many hobbies.
  • Hypno Fool: Wanda's behavior is because, in the past, a stage hypnotist implanted a trigger to make her think she's a Russian spy whenever she hears the sound of a large bell...just like the one Dog River's recently inherited. However, Wanda herself believes she's too smart to be affected by hypnosis, and the gaps occurring in her memory every time Hank rings the bell are from either sleep deprivation or overworking...at least until she notices her own Out-of-Character Alert.
  • I Warned You: More because of unnecessary complexity rather than the threat of danger, but Davis repeatedly tells Karen that the town doesn't need a fingerprint database, and feels smug validation when the French Press case is solved without it.
  • Manchild: In order to convince spy-Wanda to come with him to see Gerald Mesmerizer, Brent sends a text that states he has nuclear launch codes. He then accidentally sends her a text begging his mommy to make lasagna that night.
  • Meaningful Name: The stage hypnotist's actual name is Gerald Mesmerizer; when Brent tracks him down at his new job in a grocery store to fix Wanda, he admits it was just a phase, but he felt like he had to at least try it with a name like his.
  • Mundane Object Amazement: Wanda's spy personality is an expert at espionage and is focused on trying to track down nuclear missiles and take down the capitalist pigs of Canada...but while tracking down the hypnotist at a grocery store, Brent easily distracts her with a "Poutine Pocket" snack.
  • Out-of-Character Alert: Wanda isn't willing to admit she's been a Hypno Fool until she awakens from one trance while flirtatiously holding Hank (as her spy personality is convinced that he's a person of interest she needs to get information out of).
  • The Scapegoat: The second half of the B Plot is about figuring out who broke the French Press, with Oscar pointing the finger at Lacey. After a Red Herring in the form of Karen detecting Phil's fingerprints on the remains, spy-Wanda stops by and reveals photographic evidence that Oscar broke it and was trying to weasel out of getting blamed.
  • Shout-Out: In The Tag, fed up with all the chaos caused by the bell, Fitzy decides to put it in "a safe place": a warehouse that looks exactly like the one from the end of Raiders of the Lost Ark.
  • Special Guest: Simu Liu provides the voice for the stage hypnotist; it initially appears to just be as The Cameo during two brief flashbacks, but he appears again at the end to resolve the C Plot.
  • Stating the Simple Solution: When Brent asks why the stage hypnotist didn't just remove the hypnotic trigger during his show, it turns out the performance was interrupted by a fire alarm, so he has to track down where the hypnotist has ended up since then.
  • Verbal Backspace:
    • When Oscar's outed as the one who broke the French Press, he states he'll pay for a replacement. When Emma informs him it'll cost $68, he states that he always preferred Lacey's coffee (despite himself and Emma disrespecting it earlier in the episode).
    • When Gerald Mesmerizer states that he can undo Wanda's hypnotic trigger, he says it'll cost "Fi-", before stopping himself and saying "Sixty" dollars. Immediately after, when spy-Wanda asks how much for the nuclear codes, Brent starts by saying "Si-" before stopping himself and saying "A Hundred" bucks, plus two boxes of Poutine Pockets.
  • With Great Power Comes Great Responsibility: Hank is thrilled to become the town's Bellboy/Ringleader/other punny titles, but quickly regrets the responsibility, having to attend to the bell at the top of every hour no matter what his plans are.
