Directed by James Whitmore Jr.

Written by Sean Whitesell

Jerry Stone was killed in the ring during an exhibition fight meant to cash in on the popularity of Rocky in 1976. Years later, the man who was the referee confesses on his deathbed to Stillman and Lilly that he was paid to keep the fight going.

Tropes:

  • The Boxing Episode: A Whole-Plot Reference to Rocky too.
  • Casualty in the Ring: Jerry died of too many injuries in the fight.
  • Deliberately Monochrome: The flashback scenes are in monochrome, despite being set in 1976.
  • Known Only by Their Nickname: Maurice Bell is known best as "Mad Mo".
  • "Mister Sandman" Sequence: There are Rocky posters outside the building where the fight was taking place.
  • Stereotype Flip: In Rocky, the main character is an underdog who has been written off as a loser. Here, the main character is cheered on by his community because they know that the fight is fixed and they are all cashing in.
  • Surprisingly Realistic Outcome: In the movie Rocky, on which the episode is based, the titular character survives a hundred blows and is praised for his stamina and determination. His injuries heal nicely and he continues boxing for many more movies. In "Yo Adrian", Jerry gets pummeled in a match gone on too long, only he succumbs to his injuries and dies.
  • Unwitting Instigator of Doom: Gina blamed her father for letting the match go on for too long and getting Jerry killed, but unbeknownst to her, Jerry bribed Sonny to keep the fight going for as long as he could, in order to prove that he wasn't a "bum", because she let it slip that the match was fixed. If she hadn’t told him, he wouldn't have bribed her dad to not end the fight.
