Recap / Code Lyoko S 4 E 5

Go To

Jeremy and Aelita are inches from creating a virtual ship capable of taking the Lyoko Warriors deep into the World Wide Web. But their success hinges on closely following all aspects of the program’s progress, which will terminate the following afternoon. Alas, bad luck strikes as the two students are found working together late into the night in the same room — against academy rules.

The two are punished by Headmaster Delmas with detention. How can they expect to properly monitor the program’s progress from detention? Worse yet, with Jeremy and Aelita held in the library under Jim’s stifling custody, Xana launches an attack against the unfinished ship, threatening to destroy it completely…

This episode contains examples of:

  • Big Damn Heroes: Yumi saves Ulrich from defeat at William's hand, knocking William's sword out of his hand. This doesn't stop William from stealing Ulrich's own saber later on and using it to devirtualize him.
  • Charged Attack: Aelita defeats William by charging a particularly big Energy Field.
  • Continuity Nod:
  • Cool Boat: Jérémie and Aelita's virtual ship is this, designed to traverse the Digital Sea so the heroes can hunt down and fight XANA. Aelita gets the idea to name the virtual ship the Skidbladnir, a ship that could travel on land and always reached its destination, as described in a book on Viking Mythology her father used to read to her.
  • Defeating the Undefeatable: After several episodes in a row of the Lyoko Warriors fighting William, Aelita becomes the first person to successfully devirtualize him, albeit by attacking him when he was distracted and worn-out from his prolonged fight with Ulrich.
  • Disproportionate Retribution: Aelita and Jérémie both get a very harsh amount of detention in the library with Jim, simply for working together in the same room late at night.
  • Everyone Knows Morse Code: Yumi and Jérémie (and Hiroki) are shown to know it, but Odd and Ulrich do not.
  • Hoist by His Own Petard: William steals Ulrich's saber and uses it to devirtualize him.
  • Hopeless Suitor: When Johnny convinces Hiroki to help Yumi, Jérémie and Aelita, Johnny pushes Hiroki to emphasize to Yumi how much he helped out. Hiroki agrees to, but makes clear to Johnny that he has no chance of winning Yumi's affections as long as he's up against Ulrich.
  • Just in Time: Jérémie is able to finish the ship's programming with 10 seconds to spare, which is longer than usual for this show.
    • Aelita is able to devirtualize William when he is just about to blow up what remains of the ship's shield.
  • Know-Nothing Know-It-All: Jim, reading a math textbook. Aelita goes along with it to let Jérémie talk to Yumi with his laptop.
  • No-Sell: Jim, being a school teacher, is wise to a lot of Odds distraction techniques.
  • Saved by the Platform Below: Ulrich manages to trip William, sending him falling from the platform they're standing on. Ulrich peers over the edge of the platform, looking for William - who shows up behind him, riding a Manta.
  • Sleep Cute: At the beginning of the episode, Yumi and Ulrich are sleeping against each other in the computer lab. When Jérémie makes a loud noise, Odd tells him to be quiet so as to not wake them and is amused by the sight. Yumi, who wakes up first, smiles as she continues leaning against Ulrich. However, she quickly moves away when Ulrich starts waking up as well.
