Recap / Code Lyoko S 1 E 26

Go To

Aelita's materialization program has worked and she's now living on Earth, but not all is going well. XANA has linked Aelita to the supercomputer, preventing the group from shutting it off. Furthermore, Xana brings his Kankrelats into the real world in mass numbers and unleashes them on the school. Jim stays to defend the school while the gang goes to Lyoko to deactivate the Tower. A time reversion takes place and Aelita decides to stay on Lyoko since there is no point for her to live in the real world without being able to shut the supercomputer down.

Tropes:

  • Big Damn Heroes: Jim comes in to help save the school with his nail gun as Yumi and Ulrich start losing their steam.
  • Big Word Shout: As Jim comes in Big Damn Heroes above, he shouts the word "BANZAI!" Bilingual Bonus occurs when one realizes the word he shouted is Japanese for "ten thousand years of long life" or colloquially "long live the king!"
  • Blasting It Out of Their Hands: The Kankrelats blast Jim's nail gun out of his hand near the time when Aelita was in the tower. Unlike most examples, his hand is intact, and the gun is a few inches away.
  • Brick Joke: In "Cruel Dilemma", Aelita suggests practicing sleeping, touching and kissing, much to Jérémie's embarrassment. All three of these happen and are mentioned by Aelita as part of her experiences. Aelita sleeps at Yumi's place and finds it refreshing, she obviously touches her surroundings (and gets equally annoyed at her lack of senses when sent back to Lyoko), and finally she gives Jérémie a peck on the cheek after leaving for Yumi's (which Jérémie is very clearly happy about).
  • The Cameo: Despite not appearing in the previous episode, Kiwi cameos for a few seconds at the end of the episode, whimpering that Jim is on the way.
  • Chainsaw Good: While it's hard to see in some shots, Ulrich wields a chainsaw to combat the materialized Kankrelats.
  • The Determinator: Jim becomes a very helpful ally as he tears apart the Kankrelats, and we see a path of destruction towards the lab where Jim is tearing through them.
  • First-Name Basis: Jim wants the gang to call him Jimbo, as a sign of respect, but they all ignore it.
  • Hand Behind Head: The entire gang's reaction to Aelita noticing that humans "fight all the time" in a lot of wars.
  • Humans Are Bastards: Very lightly touched upon. After her first history class, Aelita comments that she enjoys history, but that humans seem to fight wars a lot. Odd, Ulrich and Jérémie are left speechless and the topic quickly changes as Yumi walks in.
  • Impaled with Extreme Prejudice: Yumi impales a Kankrelat Big Damn Heroes-style with a javelin, saving Ulrich from it.
  • Manly Tears: Jérémie's eyes water with tears, sad that Aelita has to remain on Lyoko until he finds the antivirus.
  • The Most Dangerous Video Game: Getting hit by the Kankrelats lasers in Lyoko will only lead to someone getting devirtualized or lose life points. Getting hit by enough of them in the real world can lead to actual death, which almost happens to Jim.
  • Offscreen Moment of Awesome: Banzai Jim!. Jim completely eviscerates the lab of Kankrelats, and later on defends the school with the same infestation, and remains Defiant to the End.
  • Photo-Booth Montage: Aelita and Jérémie take a set of pictures in a photo booth. At the end of the episode, Jérémie still has the pictures despite time being reset to before Aelita was materialized.
  • "Ray of Hope" Ending: While Aelita is finally materialized, a virus planted inside her makes her freedom temporary, and the heroes still unable to shut down the computer without killing her. Still, Aelita is not a complete prisoner, and Jeremie promises to find the cure no matter what it takes.
  • Reset Button: Jérémie is forced to go back in time in order to stop XANA from getting his monsters into the real world. This takes him and his friends back before Aelita was materialized. This also causes Jim to forget he was an ally to the group. But at least he has his job back.
  • Running Gag: Jim insisting the gang call him Jimbo as they now know each other on a more personal basis, and they all keep saying Jim until the time rewind.
  • Set Right What Once Went Wrong: Rather than deny that anything suspicious was going on, Jérémie admits that he and his friends were "up to something". This ends up saving Jim from being fired.
  • Status Quo Is God: The return to the past resets time to events of the previous episode prior to Aelita's materialization, wiping Jim's memory of Aelita, the factory and XANA and removing him from the group. Aelita decides to stay on Lyoko because of the virus implanted in her, and the heroes prevent Jim from being fired. However, Aelita continues to be infected with XANA's virus.
  • Took a Level in Badass:
    • Since Jim knows about Lyoko and XANA, with the help of a nail gun, he's able to hold his own (for the most part) against XANA's monsters in the real world.
    • Also XANA himself. He has grown in strength to the point where he can visualize monsters into the real world.
