Tropes

  • Cliffhanger: Mina is being chased by two infected men, Tyrone has been framed for Fuchs's murder and goes on the run after the NOPD comes after him, and Roxxon has finally come for Tandy and her mother, with the hitwoman holding a gun to Melissa's head and threatening to shoot as Tandy summons her powers.
  • Conversational Troping: As a Framing Device, Father Delgado discusses the "regression" part of The Hero's Journey, which Tandy, Tyrone, and O'Reilly have recently hit.
  • Corrupt Cop: The police department lets Connors off again, and the whole police department stands by and lets him beat up O'Reilly after she hits him for taunting her about Fuchs.
  • Darkest Hour: For various reasons, this is the lowest point in Tyrone's, Tandy's, and O'Reilly's arcs. Meanwhile, whatever Roxxon is doing is coming to a breaking point and the Divine Pairing is needed now.
  • Get Out!: Father Delgado quietly says this to Tyrone after seeing his most traumatic memory.
  • Internal Reveal: Evita realizes that Tandy is the other person in the Divine Pairing.
  • Karma Houdini: Connors is out of prison despite confessing to Billy's murder and goes to the local cop bar to gloat.
  • Mind Rape: Tandy is taking out her anger on others by stealing their hopes, leaving them in a darkened and pained state of mind. Under its effects, Mina even kills a bumblebee.
  • Misery Poker: Ty and Tandy take out their misery on each other, each arguing that they're in a worse place than the other.
  • No-Sell: Thanks to being a Voodoo priestess in training, Evita is able to prevent Tandy from stealing her hope.
  • Poke in the Third Eye: Due to training from her aunt, Evita's response to Tandy trying to steal her hopes is to turn to her, pull her hand away, and throw her out of her mind. Unlike everyone else, including Tyrone, she's perfectly aware that Tandy is there.
  • "The Reason You Suck" Speech: Tyrone to Father Delgado, claiming he can't understand what he's been through and that Delgado just hides in a church praying to a nonexistent God. He immediately regrets it when he sees Delgado's most traumatic memory.
  • Shout-Out: To one of the iconic lines of the Red Wedding
Assassin: Mr. Scarborough sends his regards.
  • A Threesome Is Hot: Tandy's mark at the beginning has a pretty basic hope. He wants a threesome with two beautiful women.
  • Took a Level in Jerkass: With her father becoming a Broken Pedestal due to abuse, Tandy is stealing people's hope, turning them into a worse version of themselves. Meanwhile, Tyrone, convinced by his parents that Connors will never really be prosecuted for Billy's murder, has returned to violence and chews out Delgado in the worst way.
  • Ungrateful Bastard: Liam, he took Tandy's money and left her after she bailed him out and said that she wants to spend the rest of her life with him. Likely justified, as she left him to rot as she tried to leave town (and was trying to steal his hopes as well).
  • What the Hell, Hero?: The powers themselves do this to Tyrone and Tandy, bringing Tyrone to Tandy's mind to reprimand her for taking Liam's hopes, and making Tyrone see Delgado's memories.
  • Who Will Bell the Cat?: Adina tells Tyrone that he shouldn't have pursued justice for Billy, as now Connors and his cronies will just target him as a loose end. Tyrone's response is that things will just get worse and worse and someone has to stand up and stick their neck out to make the world better, even if it costs them their lives.
