When a billionaire’s life is threatened, Beckett is assigned to be his personal bodyguard, getting Castle jealous and determined to solve the case quickly.
- Armor-Piercing Question: Castle and Vaughn have a brief exchange as the latter is leaving the precinct:Vaughn (nodding in Beckett's direction): You know, that's an extraordinary woman you have there.Castle: I know.Vaughn: Do you?
- Dogged Nice Guy: Vaughn finds it hard to take no for an answer with regards to Beckett though he does eventually get the message.
- Honest Corporate Executive: Eric Vaughn turns out to be one. There are examples of corruption at his company but in all cases he was unaware and both upset and quick to deal with it when he finds out. He also seems to be kind and understanding to his employees, arguably to a fault (he kept on an employee who stalked him and, while not the actual murderer nor aware that murder was the plan, she is involved in the plot against him).
- I Need to Go Iron My Dog: Ryan decides to stop interviewing Beckett when she reveals that Vaughn tried to kiss her.
- Murder by Mistake: Vaughn would’ve been poisoned in the opening scene if the waiter hadn’t mixed up his dish with another.
- Revealing Cover Up: The hired killer also killed the busboy he threatened into poisoning the food, investigating which opens a trail which leads to him and ultimately his employer. Given that he threatened the busboy's daughter it's entirely possible were he alive that he would have refused to talk.
