• Angry Collar Grab: Absalom does this to cuffed Ritter Longerbane when he tries to press the location of Jonah from him.
• Big Damn Heroes: Philo comes to Vignette's rescue and shoots her attacker in the nick of time.
• Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: Piety offering Longerbane water after the torture which turns out to be poison.
• Blood on the Debate Floor: Absalom Breakspear attacks his political rival Ritter Longerbane in Parliament after publicly claiming he's behind his son's abduction.
• Bring My Brown Pants: The boy at the orphanage pees himself after seeing what the Darkasher did to his headmaster.
• Cry into Chest: Vignette cries into Tourmaline's chest at the end after the horrible event of the previous night.
• Disposable Sex Worker: Philo's fellow police officer thinks this of Aisling. Philo defends her saying that she wasn't a whore.
• Disposing of a Body: Vignette and Philo drop the body of the mole into a well.
• High-Altitude Interrogation: At the Black Raven, Vignette is held over an abyss by her wings in order to make her talk about why she met with a copper on the street.
• If You're So Evil, Eat This Kitten!: The leader of the Black Raven tasks Vignette with killing the mole in order to prove her commitment to the cause.
• Internal Reveal: Jonah finds out that his mother was behind his kidnapping.
• Interrogated for Nothing: Absalom Breakspear tries to beat Ritter Longerbane into giving up Jonah's location since he's sure Longerbane is behind kidnapping him. He's innocent, however, so this doesn't work. However, Piety Breakspear spins this into Torture Always Works when she poisons Longerbane and then claims he'd told her the location before he died.
• The Legend of Chekhov: A seer tells Philo about the story of the Darkasher. Naturally, this legend comes true.
• "No Peeking!" Request: Vignette asks the mole to close his eyes when she fakes making out with him. He follows suit and she goes with a knife after him and both drop from the building and go into a High-Altitude Battle.
• Perfect Poison: Piety Breakspear poisons Ritter Longerbane with poison that he cannot taste and kills him almost instantly.
• Shear Menace: The mole threatens to chop off Vignette's head with a pair of pruning shears.
• Spotting the Thread: When Jonah recognizes the footstep of her mother but decides to say nothing for the time being.
• Table Space: We see Ritter Longerbane and Sophie having breakfast while sitting across a long table. This emphasizes the emotional distance between them.
• We Have Ways of Making You Talk: Absalom notes that they shall devise some way to jog Ritter Longerbane's memory about Jonah's whereabouts. In the next scene, Longerbane looks badly battered from the Cold-Blooded Torture they subjected him to offscreen.
