Recap / Captain Marvel 6

Go To

Between waves of the Chitauri invasion force, Carol "Captain Marvel" Danvers reflects on how everyone has taken damage, and not just physically. The revelation that Steve "Captain America" Rogers was a traitor has hit everyone hard and driven many to the brink of despair. Without him, the warriors under Danvers' command are starting to lose hope, and this isn't helped by the fact that Danvers cannot find a way to break through the shield surrounding Earth no matter what she does. As she reflects, Alpha Flight staff (including Eugene "Puck" Judd and Walter "Sasquatch" Langkowski) and the Guardians of the Galaxy (including Peter "Star-Lord" Quill, Gamora, Rocket Raccoon, and Groot) repair the station and prepare more weapons, America Chavez and Monica "Spectrum" Rambeau play checkers, and the injured Marcus "Hyperion" Milton puts a blanket over the form of Avril "Quasar" Kincaid. Too soon, however, another Chitauri force arrives and Danvers calls everyone except for the new cadets (A'di, Glory, and Dante Cruz) to battle stations. The rest of Danvers' forces head out to battle the aliens as the cadets stay behind.

Later, Danvers says the Guardians fought well but Quill insists they'll all eventually die to the inexhaustible Chitauri forces. Danvers says they need reinforcements and sends the Guardians to try to recruit allies from alien races. As they leave, though, her lieutenant Abigail Brand says Quill is completely unreliable and won't be able to help them. Behind them, Adi's drone Itz sits unnoticed.

In the barracks, Cadets A'di, Glory, and Cruz wrap themselves in blankets and listen to audio that Itz recorded. During the conversation, Brand had said that Gwendolyn "Wendy" Kawasaki could open the shield from the other side, but she's trapped down on Earth because she was getting supplies when the shield went up and then Rogers had her arrested. The cadets try to figure out if they can help in some way, with Glory worrying that the space station is already losing basic functions such as heat and probably won't even be able to provide air soon, meaning time is of the essence. A'di says they have to do something, and though Cruz wants to obey Danvers' orders to remain put, Glory says they're technically part of Alpha Flight and thus should be involved in the fight. A'di agrees with him, saying she doesn't want to be a soldier but does want to be a hero like T'Challa and Danvers.

Danvers approaches Hopper, a Stark Industries scientist working with Alpha Flight. He's been designing an amplifier to try to get a message through the shield, but as he describes it he begins to rant about how he should have told Kawasaki that he loved her while he still had the chance. Danvers promises that they'll find her somehow.

A'di grabs Itz and notes that its communications unit was recently upgraded with Wakandan technology. She passes the robot to Glory, who examines it and says that it contains sufficient technology for what they need. Cruz asks if they can use the robot to pass into Alpha Flight's communications system and then boost their signal somehow. This unnerves Itz, though A'di tries to calm it down. The trio agree to try to connect Itz to the main satellite that Alpha Flight uses for communications.

Hopper, Judd, and Langkowski approach Danvers, who is trying to send a message to Kawasaki on Earth without success. Hopper explains that he finished the amp and connected it to Alpha Flight's communications system, but the signal still isn't strong enough. Danvers asks if they can just turn the amp up to eleven, but Hopper says the problem is that the satellite is too far from the shield, so the shield can modulate itself to the signal's frequency and block it by the time the signal—degraded from the long distance—arrives. What they need is a way to randomize the signal's wave signature at the very last moment so the shield can't block it. Judd sums up that they need a high-powered transmission relay to do that, and they don't have one, nor can they build one with the materials they have on hand. Enraged, Danvers smashes the computer console she was working at. Meanwhile, the cadets steal spacesuits and prepare to make a run for the satellite.

Judd sees signs of another Chitauri wave and Danvers tells them to get ready to fight it. She then, however, sees the cadets flying outside of the space station towards the satellite. As the cadets marvel at the shield and muse how impossible their task is, Danvers rushes off to catch them.

The cadets arrive at the main communications satellite and hook Itz in. Glory believes their approach is working, but then Danvers arrives to yell at them. Before she can get started, though, an alarm goes off warning of approaching Chitauri. Danvers orders them to get down but the cadets refuse and say they want to fight. They help Danvers begin to drive off the Chitauri approaching that particular satellite. At that moment, though, Itz receives a message from Kawasaki on Earth asking for Alpha Flight to come in. Danvers is stunned, and at that moment she is hit by a large Chitauri dragon-like battleship and thrown into a spaceship which explodes. As Kawasaki continues to demand a status update and the Chitauri battleship closes in on Danvers, A'di notes that they might have just killed their leader.
