Tropes

  • Character Development: Dolph, who has no friends, gets thoroughly used by Max, and comes to realize that it isn't what he wants in a friend. All without a single Nazi joke.
  • Continuity Nod:
    • Harkening back to the beginning of the season, David mentions that the camp's budget is running tight.
    • Scotty from all the way back to season one gets mentioned, and was somehow injured by Nikki when she got hold of candy.
  • A Day in the Limelight: This episode focuses on Dolph.
  • False Friend: Max becomes one to Dolph.
  • Foreshadowing: The poor quality of the camp's food, as well as the graphs in the counselors' room, are an indication that Camp Campbell's finances still aren't doing well, which will be quite pertinent at the end of the season.
  • G-Rated Drug: Nikki's obsession with candy plays out like an alcoholic. When the candy supply is gone, she goes through withdrawal symptoms.
  • Literal Metaphor: When Nurf says he doesn't want to put his foot in his mouth, he means it literally, in that his lunch is a shoe.
  • Noodle Incident:
    • Nikki has a bad, bad relationship with sugar. Something truly appalling happened to Scotty the last time she let her habit get out of control.
    • Something caused David to have a huge beef with The Cheesecake Factory.
  • "Not So Different" Remark: Dolph warns Max that he's on track to become Cameron Campbell if he keeps using and discarding people without thought for the consequences.
  • Paper-Thin Disguise: Nikki wears a top hat, monocle, and mustache in an attempt to get Max to give her more candy. Max sees right through it.
  • Taking the Heat: One of Max's "friendship lessons" for Dolph is that he should do this for Max if their scheme got found out. In the end, however, Max ends up willingly doing this for Dolph as a somewhat awkward but sincere attempt to make amends.
  • The Thing That Would Not Leave: Dolph moves into Max's tent and quickly becomes this to his new friend.
  • Toxic Friend Influence: Dolph may be annoying, but Max is a transparently shitty excuse for a friend to him.
  • Vitriolic Best Buds: Max tries to pass off his nastiness toward Dolph as harmless ragging. Dolph, who doesn't know any better, believes him.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: Neil calls Max out for using Dolph's loneliness to get candy.
Neil: Jeez, Max, how do you sleep at night?
Max: Under the gaze of a creepy German kid, thanks.
  • Wrote the Book: Cameron Campbell apparently wrote an actual book on taking advantage of so-called friends. It didn't sell that well, but it was his publisher who lost out.
