Recap / Camp Camp S 3 E 3 Foreign Exchange Campers

Go To

Camp Campbell is visited by some foreign exchange campers, but something seems... off about some of them. What are they hiding? Why are they so interested in Cameron Campbell? Suspicious...

Tropes:

  • Beware the Nice Ones: Cameron Campbell used him as a human shield and he didn't seem to mind. His friends all turned into zombies and he wasn't fazed. Hell, Max drugged him into a hallucinogenic stupor and tried to kill him, and Space Kid walked it off smiling. But the moment Vera insults the U.S. space program, Space Kid finally gets pissed.
Space Kid: What the fuck did you just say to me?
  • Brick Joke: One of the things the foreign exchange campers are looking for, Dang specifically, is an "Elixir of Life", which Max laughs off as them being idiots. When Brian reveals he broke open the safe during the fight, one of the things visible on the bottom shelf is a pink bottle labelled "Elixir of Life".
  • The Chessmaster: Brian, the Kentuckian, is using the other three spies to do his dirty work so he can make off with Cameron's wealth.
  • Deep South: Brian, who's from Kentucky, doesn't demonstrate any of the traits traditionally associated with the South. It turns out this is part of his cover - he gains a significantly thicker accent when he reveals himself as a Kentucky secessionist.
  • The Dog Was the Mastermind: Brian, the kid from Kentucky "accidentally" attached to the foreign exchange kids, is in fact a Kentucky secessionist hoping to steal Campbell's wealth to fund his state leaving the union.
  • Dramatic Irony: When the foreign exchange campers tell Max what they're are looking for that belongs to Cameron Campbell, he laughs off their search stating Campbell didn't have any of it, in particular mocking Dang for thinking Campbell could ever give NK's Glorious Leader an "elixir of life". Thing is though, he did have one. In "NIGHT OF THE LIVING ILL", one of the things Space Kid finds in Campbell's old mansion while looking for medicine is an "Elixir of Immortality"... which he proceeds to drop and break when seeing it's not medicine. Granted, it's unlikely Cameron would have even given it had it not been broken, but Dang could have gotten it had the group gone to Spooky Island like they originally planned and Space Kid not have dropped it.
  • Driven to Suicide: After failing in their mission, the foreign exchange campers are about to pop their cyanide pills when Neil offers them all ice cream.
  • Failed a Spot Check: Nikki and Neil repeatedly fail to notice that Max is being held hostage by foreign exchange campers despite how obvious it is, thinking he's just becoming friends with them. Even upon seeing him bound and gagged, they just think the trio are gonna take Max "home" with them, prompting them to enter clingy jealous mode and fight them. It takes Max outright yelling that they're spies for the two of them to realize it.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: Max ditches his usual friends to team up with the foreign campers for the scavenger hunt. At the end of the episode, Neil locks Max into the safe, which Max deems fair.
  • The Mole: Vera, Hwan, and Dang were all sent by their respective governments to kill Cameron Campbell for his crimes against them. And Brian, the spy from Kentucky, who's playing them all.
  • Noodle Incident: We know what Cameron Campbell did to piss off Thailand and Russia, and according to Hwan, Cameron promised NK's Glorious Leader an eternal life potion. What he did to warrant an assassin from Kentucky - is still up in the air.
  • Oddly Named Sequel 2: Electric Boogaloo: While rummaging around Campbell's attic, Vera pulls out one to the Declaration of Independence.
  • Precision F-Strike: When Vera asks how it feels to have a failing space program, Space Kid drops the f-bomb for the first time.
  • Sweet Tooth: A reminder that while the Campbell campers and the foreign spies may know, say, and do things you wouldn't want from children, they're still kids. The prospect of ice cream makes even Max join the camp's activities, and the spies except Brian forget about the cyanide pills when Neil offers them ice cream.
  • Touché: When Neil locks him in the safe for selling out friends for ice cream, Max admits that fair's fair.
  • Visual Pun: When Dang says the spies came for Campbell's head while rummaging in his attic, he pulls out a Shrunken Head.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: Neil and Nikki are not happy with Max for ditching them in seconds to win ice cream.
  • The Worf Effect: Nurf, the physically strongest Camp Campbell camper, is outmatched by Vera in their confrontation.
