Simon, a former employee of TAC and a friend of Cable's, jumps off of a building. At Cable's urging, Bull helps Simon's parents sue a drug company, as Simon was part of a drug trial that those close to him say vastly changed his personality. However, the drug company brings its own Trial Scientist into the trial.
- Corrupt Corporate Executive: Tessa Snyder, the CEO of DEP Pharmaceuticals; it's revealed towards the end of the trial that she used a homeless man to act as a "healthy volunteer" for a drug trial, and covered up his own suicide by paying for a cremation.
- Driven to Suicide: The specific moment that drove Simon to jumping was missing a delivery deadline by mere seconds, and thus not getting paid for a job that's constantly running him ragged, though the episode centers around whether his emotions at that time were or were not impacted by the drug test.
- Parting-Words Regret: Part of Cable's motivation for helping is because she briefly saw Simon on the day he died, and berated him for cutting all connections with her and taking on a delivery job that makes him look like hell.
- The Rival: Artie Candor, who is a Trial Scientist like Bull, but prefers to read people over hiring mirror juries.
