Gina, Rosa and Amy do some last-minute bonding.

"Four Movements" is the fourth episode of Brooklyn Nine-Nine's sixth season.

Gina announces to the Nine Nine that she's decided to depart the precinct and set off to pursue new adventures. As a parting gift, she gives each member of the squad a final "Gina Moment" before she leaves, divided into four movements.

Unusually for Brooklyn Nine-Nine, this episode has no "B" or "C" plots.

This episode provides examples of:

  • Ambiguously Bi: Jake claims that "everyone" had a crush on A.C. Slater.
Gina: I had such a big crush on him.
Jake: Yeah, we all had a big crush on A.C. Slater.
  • Bad Liar: Amy, when she says she's going to the bathroom to cry about taking a big dump, not Gina's departure.
  • Bavarian Fire Drill: Jake and Gina get into an exclusive club by acting like rich people who threaten to call "Daddy" if they are not let in.
  • Brick Joke: One that stretches all the way back to season 3's Halloween episode; Amy actually makes Gina a book of her tweets.
  • Call-Back:
    • Although Gina isn't dead yet, just leaving, Amy's parting gift to her is a book of her tweets.
    • Gina gives Charles the Boyle family mother dough she'd made to replace the heirloom sourdough starter she accidentally destroyed in "Chasing Amy". Charles also mentions how he used to be her brother and lover.
    • Hitchcock once again mentions Leroy Pipe, the pornstar from "My Bare Lady".
  • Chess Motif: Holt teaches Gina how to play chess, telling her that like chess, life needs to be planned out in advance. (Holt himself planned his entire police career when he was ten years old.) Gina points out that despite all his planning, Holt didn't become commissioner, and that it's better to take what life gives you and make up your own rules. She then checkmates Holt by moving her queen however she wants, claiming that she "reinvented the game."
  • Comically Missing the Point: Gina claims victory over Holt in chess by making a completely illegal move.
  • Even the Guys Want Him: Mario Lopez, according to Jake.
  • Jerkass Has a Point: Several, from Gina.
    • Gina claims she turned away Mario Lopez to teach Jake that he doesn't need to get her a celebrity or a fancy party to say goodbye.
    • She also tries to teach Amy to just be herself by trying to make her to burn a scrapbook she worked really hard to make. Amy can't go through with it... and that's her Gina!Moment.
  • Not So Above It All: Jake's Gina!Moment; she teaches him that he doesn't need to throw her a big, fancy party with a celebrity; she's more than happy to just hang out at the bar with her friends.
  • Not So Stoic: Rosa finds herself getting weepy at the prospect of Gina not being around anymore.
  • Obvious Stunt Double: In-Universe, Gina begins her announcement by setting off confetti and then doing backflips to the front of the room. Just as the audience is thinking it's an obvious double, "Gina" steps behind the blackboard where the entire gang can quite clearly see and hear the real Gina complimenting the gymnast on the moves. She then comes out in the same outfit, acting as if that was actually her.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: Rosa, of all people, cries when Gina gives Amy her Gina!Moment and hugs her.
  • Overly Long Gag: Gina's actual good-bye ends up lasting for days as she lingers around the precinct, ostensibly to help with a smooth transition. Turns out that there was a shipping delay on a golden statue of herself she'd commissioned and she needed to stick around to make sure its arrival had the proper impact.
  • Underestimating Badassery: Jake thinks he can rush past the security guards. Unfortunately, they immediately take him down.
