Recap / Brooklyn Nine Nine S 1 E 14 The Ebony Falcon

Go To

The Ebony Falcon is the fourteenth episode of Brooklyn Nine-Nine's first season.

Terry is ready to be back out in the field and teams up with Jake and Charles to go undercover at a gym. Things don't go according to plan, however.

Also, Holt tasks Amy and Rosa to investigate a break-in at Gina's apartment.

This episode provides examples of:

  • Awesome McCoolname: Terry used to be known as "The Ebony Falcon". Jake eventually dubs him "The Ebony Antelope" because he's now more aware and cautious of the dangers of police work.
  • Becoming the Mask: Charles becomes more concerned with running the gym than his actual police assignment.
  • Chekhov's Gun: Charles's cloud-based scheduling system. He and Jake use it to find the supplier when Jake busted Terry's cover too early, to identify a trainer who isn't actually a trainer.
  • Freudian Excuse: Jake sabotages the sting because he doesn't want to see Terry get hurt. He grew up without a father and doesn't want Terry's daughters to go through the same hardship.
  • Hopeless with Tech: The older man that Jake inadvertantly forces off his machine angrily accuses him of cyberbullying, despite that there's no computer remotely nearby.
  • Offscreen Moment of Awesome: One cut shows Terry holding three mooks in headlocks, one under each arm and one between his legs. He tells the heavily armed ESU officers that he left one for them to handle. Currently provides the page image for Headlock of Dominance.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: Amy and Rosa realize that Gina's genuinely shaken up when Gina starts talking about how much she loves work and wants to stay late at the precinct.
  • Percussive Therapy: After they go a few rounds in the wrestling ring, and Jake is punched several times, Terry looks much happier after Jake admits the reasons for sabotaging the sting. He also looks like he worked off a bit of steam.
