Recap / Bones S 7 E 4 The Male In The Mail

Go To

An employee of a printing shop is found dismembered and spread out among several mailing boxes, leading Booth to investigate the man's fellow employees and expose a love triangle. Meanwhile, Booth's grandfather (who raised him and Jared) arrives in D.C. to alert Booth of his father's passing.

Tropes

  • Break Out the Museum Piece: Hodgins used antique weapons on fake bones to compare striation patterns to the bones of the victim. The closest match came from a guillotine, which led Booth and Brennan to discovering that the killer dismembered the body with an industrial paper-cutter, which left similar striations.
  • Cheek Copy: This trope is a major clue as the Victim of the Week apparently had sex with a female coworker on the office photocopier. Angela identifies the woman by measuring the butt on the copy.
  • Distracted by the Sexy: Edison can't stop staring at Bones fidgeting with her pregnancy-sized breasts.
  • Oh, Crap!: The woman who had an affair with the victim triumphantly declares that she couldn't have killed him to cover up the affair, because she told her husband about it right before the victim disappeared. Booth rephrases what she just said back to her, and her face turns to this.
  • Outliving One's Offspring: Booth's paternal grandfather outlived Booth's father.
