Recap / Bones S 11 E 19 The Head In The Abutment

Go To

A popular professional hockey player is found floating sans head in the nearby river. Upon questioning the coach, (guest star Jeremy Roenick), Booth's depth of hockey knowledge is tested, and he's reunited with an old hockey rival from his high school days.

Tropes

  • Black Comedy: Hodgins and Wells use a specialized drone to locate and collect the victim's disembodied head, and terrify several people (including children) as they fly it back to the lab.
  • Deliberate Under-Performance: Booth deliberately flubs the penalty shot at the end of the episode so that the equipment manager, who has been obsessed with the penalty shot he failed to save in high school, finally let go and move on with his life.
  • Dumb Jock: Lang's enforcer is this up to eleven. He confuses "retribution" for "reimbursement" and when Aubrey asks where he was working out...
Jock: Mostly my arms. It was bis, tris, and abs day.
  • Obfuscating Stupidity: The woman who owns the team is playing the role of the ditzy overwhelmed trophy wife widow so that she can sabotage the team without fans or the media guessing she's planning to move the team and make a few hundred million dollars.
