Recap / Bojack Horseman S 2 E 06 Higher Love

Go To

When Mr. Peanutbutter's agent dies, Princess Carolyn sees an opportunity; BoJack is unnerved after he says the L word to Wanda.

This episode contains examples of:

  • Accidental Declaration of Love: Bojack accidentally blurting out the words "I love you" to Wanda, and spends the rest of the episode trying to get her to tell him that she loves him back... because he's afraid of looking desperate.
  • Autoerotic Asphyxiation: What BoJack uses to try to trick Wanda into confessing that she loves him.
  • Don't Explain the Joke: The funky Spider-Man bit.
  • Dude, Where's My Respect?: Even though Princess Carolyn managed to get J. D. Salinger to come out of retirement, everyone at her workplace gives him credit but not her. She is very frustrated over this.
  • Elephant in the Living Room: Wanda says this about BoJack having his auto-erotic asphyxiation gym being built in his bedroom. However, the construction worker who is building this (who actually IS an elephant) think they are talking about him, and he leaves offended.
  • I "Uh" You, Too: What drives the main plot of the episode.
  • On Second Thought: When Jackson tells him about the auto-erotic asphyxiation machine to try to get his love to love him back, BoJack is hesitant to do so. But when Jackson instead offers him a cross in support of Jesus, BoJack finds this worse (for some reason) and goes for the noose.
  • Open Mouth, Insert Foot: As BoJack is heading out for work at the beginning of the episode, he offhandedly tells Wanda that he loves her. He realizes what he said a second too late.
  • Sudden Downer Ending: BoJack finally got Wanda to admit that she loves him, and the two are closer than ever. But as he goes over to Corduroy Jackson to thank him, he finds his body hanging in the trailer.

Wanda tries to get Bojack, to open up and talk about this trope...unknowingly insulting the actual elephant in the room.

How well does it match the trope?
