Recap / Bob's Burgers S6E8 "Sexy Dance Healing"

Go To

When Bob slips on a greasy sidewalk, Jairo accepts fault and helps heal his labrum. Meanwhile, the kids are inspired to make up a bogus law firm in order to threaten people with lawsuits.

Sexy Trope Healing:

  • Accidental Misnaming: Jairo calls Mr. Fischoeder "Mr. Fishsticks."
  • Ambiguously Gay: Jairo seems quite fixated on Bob's butt, and spends an awfully long time massaging it.
    • Bob's lawyer (later Jairo's lawyer) makes it a point to emphasize Jairo's good looks.
  • The Bus Came Back: Jairo hasn't appeared since Season 1's "Sexy Dance Fighting".
  • Comical Overreacting: Teddy does not take Bob cancelling his Burger of the Day well.
  • Continuity Nod: Tina still has a crush on Jairo.
  • Department of Redundancy Department: Jairo's studio is the Capoeira Center for Capoeira.
  • Did I Just Say That Out Loud?: Mr. Fischoeder sees right through the kids' phony law-firm... then blabs that he used the same technique to stop the workers at Wonder Wharf from unionizing. This gives the Belcher kids the chance to blackmail him into letting Jairo have his studio back.
Fischoeder: That'll teach me to be honest with children.
  • Going Commando: Discussed; Jairo wanted Bob to come to his studio without underwear (for a massage). Bob goes with underwear, but Jairo immediately realizes such.
  • He's Back!: Linda proclaims this when Bob finally comes up with a good Burger of the Day.
  • It's Been Done: When Linda calls the Burgers of the Day "happy makers" she considers renaming them to Happy Meals, only to realize the problem with that.
  • Mistaken for Gay: Gene repeatedly assumes there's something between Bob and Jairo.
  • No Sympathy: Teddy and Bob's family act like him not doing a Burger of the Day is the worst thing possible and have little to no empathy for the fact Bob is burnt out and needs a break before he can keep doing it.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: When Jairo suggests Bob doesn't do the Burger of the Day to help alleviate stress, he decides to take a break from it. Nobody else is okay with this; Linda is just kind of weirded out about it, but Teddy has a psychotic breakdown where he practically threatens Bob to put something up, Tina and Gene are shocked, and when Bob suggests Louise put one of her joke burgers up, she refuses because it isn't the same if Bob lets her do it.
  • Playing Both Sides: In the case of Bob v. Jairo, Bob's lawyer represents him. But in the case of Jairo v. Bob, Bob's lawyer instead represents Jairo.
    Bob: How is that legal?
  • Running Gag: Bob really wants that red scrunchie. By the end of the episode, he's gotten every color of the rainbow except red, though it seems for a moment like Jairo is about to give him the red one.
  • Tempting Fate: Jairo claims he has no need to worry about money. Mr. Fischoeder proceeds to evict him from both his apartment and studio.
  • Took a Level in Kindness: Jairo was a jerk to the Belchers in his debut appearance, physically assaulted Bob because he disdainfully compared capoeira to Jazzercise, and flunked Tina from his class out of spite (then physically assaulted Bob again when he rightfully called Jairo out on it). Here, he is much nicer, works to make amends when Bob gets hurt because of him, and even becomes friends with Bob.
  • Writer's Block: Bob is in a slump where he's unable to think of a decent name for a Burger of the Day.
