Recap / BoBoiBoy S1 E5 "With Great Power Comes... A Catch?"

Go To

Adu Du recaps his defeat from the previous episode, and experiments making a cocoa fuel as powerful as Tok Aba's, but fails in replicating it. He starts seeking the secret formula for his cocoa instead. Meanwhile, Tok Aba assigns BoBoiBoy to deliver some cocoa cans, so he uses his Triple Split to do the job quickly. Ochobot advises against it since using the ability for too long would make BoBoiBoy forgetful, but he insists that they'd be quick.

Adu Du's minion robots attack Tok Aba's store to seize a book he was writing in, believing it to contain the secret formula. Gopal rescues him by turning the robots into boxes of chocolate snacks. When Gopal needs a power boost, Tok Aba tosses his book at his face, and seeing the contents makes Gopal scream in fear and neutralise all the robots. Adu Du is further convinced that the book contains the secret recipe. BoBoiBoy returns to the Cocoa Shop, but he addresses everyone incorrectly. Ochobot explains his forgetfulness, and flashbacks show of how each of the three elementals' deliveries went south one way or another because of it.

Probe and Adu Du, disguising as people, play along as Tok Aba and Gopal believe the former to be Yaya's old neighbor, and Adu Du "her" child. The disguised aliens decide to relax instead of hastily seizing the book, but Yaya and Ying instantly recognise them from behind. Adu Du slips the book under his hand, but Probe holds a gun to Tok Aba and threatens the others to not make any moves. Ochobot alerts BoBoiBoy, but he mistakes Gopal for Adu Du. While the others are distracted, Adu Du pours the cocoa drinks they were given into Probe's hatch, powering him up to become Super Mrs. Probe since he was still in character with his disguise. Despite this, he proves more than capable in taking on the heroes.

When Adu Du is confused by BoBoiBoy's behaviour, Gopal explains why he's forgetful, much to Tok Aba's annoyance. Probe suggests they test the claim first, and they take BoBoiBoy's misnaming of Gopal as confirmation. Despite his hazy memory, BoBoiBoy decides to fight Adu Du and reaffirms himself as a superhero - and uses his Triple Split again to take him down, unfortunately. Adu Du and Probe are zapped with lightning before they are trapped in a pit covered by a landslide. Everything seems right as rain, albeit the elementals are still forgetful. But before he can merge back, the ground shakes and the three are inclined to fight. Super Mrs. Probe jumps out from underneath, blinds them, and snatches BoBoiBoy Lightning before he and Adu Du fly away with him and Tok Aba's book.

This episode provides examples of:

  • Accidental Misnaming: BoBoiBoy does this alot when he's forgetful, such as addressing Tok Aba as Tok Abu or Tok Babas, Gopal as Arumugam, Ying as Ah Meng and so forth.
  • Cherry Tapping: After BoBoiBoy Lightning fries Adu Du and Probe, BoBoiBoy Wind summons a gentle breeze to tilt the two of them to fall into a pit formed by BoBoiBoy Earth, who closes the hole with a landslide.
  • Cliffhanger: Adu Du is victorious at the end of the episode, having Tok Aba's secret book, his cocoa and BoBoiBoy Lightning in his possession before vanishing into the sky. Cut to credits.
  • From Bad to Worse: BoBoiBoy's memory was still hazy before Adu Du attacked, then he uses his Triple Split ability to defeat him although the prolonged use of that power was what messed up his memory in the first place. Then Adu Du kidnaps BoBoiBoy Lightning, and the effects of that would manifest in the next episode...
  • If You Thought That Was Bad...: Ochobot tells of what happened to each of BoBoiBoy's deliveries. When Gopal comments how outrageous it was that he got Mr. Mat to deliver it for him, Ochobot simply states:
Ochobot: That's not bad actually. There's worse.
  • Knife Outline: Super Mrs. Probe shoots five kitchen knives towards Yaya, and they pin her by her clothes to a tree behind her.

BoBoiBoy Losing His Memory

Because he used his Triple Split for too long, BoBoiBoy's memory deteriorates, leading him to misname his friends out of forgetfulness.

How well does it match the trope?
