Recap / BoBoiBoy S1 E2 "Adu Du Attacks!"

Go To

Adu Du briefly recaps the previous episode, swearing that he'll find out what BoBoiBoy did to his power sphere. The episode starts with BoBoiBoy practicing his new powers in his backyard with Ochobot's help. BoBoiBoy wishes to share the news of his powers with his friends, which Ochobot objects. While BoBoiBoy does convince Ochobot to let him do so by exploiting the robot's fear of heights, Ochobot would only reveal BoBoiBoy's strongest power if he got him down. From behind a fence, a robot minion of Adu Du's spies on them.

BoBoiBoy visits his new friends at Tok Aba's Cocoa Shop to tell them that he infiltrated the ship of the alien they saw on TV the other day, and had a robot follow him home that gave him superpowers. His friends laugh it off, but as BoBoiBoy tries to demonstrate his abilities, Adu Du interrupts, demanding where his power sphere is. He proceeds to attack them with Super Probe, and BoBoiBoy uses his powers to fight back. Probe deploys a claw hand to catch Ochobot, but BoBoiBoy kicks him out of range and gets caught in his grasp himself.

Adu Du threatens to destroy BoBoiBoy if he doesn't get his power sphere back. When Adu Du's attention is diverted, Ochobot grants superpowers to Yaya, Ying and Gopal as well. Yaya has flight and super strength, Ying has super speed, but Gopal's power hasn't revealed itself yet. When it's instead Yaya, Ying and Gopal who are stuck in Super Probe's clutches, it's up to BoBoiBoy to save them by using his ultimate ability; the Triple Split. The three elementals defeat Adu Du and save BoBoiBoy's friends.

The newly superpowered friends spend the rest of the day together to explore their new abilities, but their first two attempts at answering peoples' calls for help don't turn out as well as they had hoped. Adu Du sends his robot minions to fetch the same cocoa as before because Tok Aba's cocoa specifically gives the highest energy output. BoBoiBoy hears Tok Aba call for help from robots attacking his store. BoBoiBoy and his friends fight off the alien robots while Tok Aba watches in shock. After they defeat the minions and send them fleeing, Tok Aba's only reply to the question of if he's alright is "Okay" before he faints. When the minion robots return empty-handed, Adu Du swears revenge against BoBoiBoy.

This episode provides examples of:

  • Accidental Misnaming: Adu Du fumbles at saying BoBoiBoy's name twice, at the beginning and at the end of the episode.
Adu Du: Wait until I get my hands on you Bo-bu- Bo-be-bu- Be-bu- BoBoiBoy! What kind of a name is that?
    [...]
Adu Du: Eee not that boy again! Just you wait Brabuboy!
Probe: Uhh, it's BoBoiBoy, Mr. Boss.
    Adu Du: Silence!
  • Anti-Climax: Gopal does a fair deal of movements with repeat cuts to charge up his new power to attack Adu Du, but nothing comes out of it. He asks for a time-out to ask Ochobot what his powers are, but he doesn't have an answer.
  • Argument of Contradictions: Between BoBoiBoy and Ochobot on whether the former could tell his friends about his powers is a back-and-forth of "Yes I can" and "No you can't"s. BoBoiBoy wins the argument by trapping him on an earth wall.
Ochobot: Hey! You can't tell your friends about your powers!
    BoBoiBoy: Yes I can.
    Ochobot: No you can't.
    BoBoiBoy: Yes I can.
    Ochobot: No you can't.
    BoBoiBoy: Yes I can!
Ochobot: No you can't! (cut) Yes you can, yes you can! Ahh put me down BoBoiBoy!
  • Chronic Hero Syndrome: Lightly parodied, the newly superpowered friends answered calls for help. The first came from an old lady having trouble selling food she made. Another came from someone who had a fish stolen from them, to which Gopal tries fetching it back from a cat who does way more damage to him. Then Tok Aba called for help because alien robots were attacking his store.
  • Conditional Powers: Discussed. Gopal suggests that his powers might emerge when he's helping people. Unfortunately, it doesn't work.
  • Exact Words: Adu Du asks Ochobot why he granted BoBoiBoy powers, to which he replies that he's programmed to follow whoever activates him. When Adu Du declares that he is the one who activated him, BoBoiBoy gives a counterpoint; he stole his cocoa to activate Ochobot so technically BoBoiBoy is the one who activated Ochobot.
  • Gilligan Cut: BoBoiBoy wants to tell his friends about his powers, Ochobot says he can't. After a brief Argument of Contradictions which ends on Ochobot saying "No you can't!", a cut to Ochobot saying he can tell his friends occurs, and the camera zooms out to reveal that BoBoiBoy has Ochobot on an "Earth Wall" again.
  • Graceful Landing, Clumsy Landing: BoBoiBoy Earth attacks Mega Probe to unleash Yaya, Ying and Gopal from his clutches. The first two land on their feet, but Gopal screams as he crashes with a thud offscreen.
  • How Do I Shot Web?: BoBoiBoy tries replicating the Lightning Bolt he made the previous day, only to conjure a Lightning Umbrella and a Lightning Broom instead on his first attempts.
  • Laser-Guided Amnesia: Supposedly what happened in Ochobot's case, he claims that BoBoiBoy kicking him away from being grabbed by Probe was what caused his data to get scrambled to the extent that he forgot what Gopal's powers were.
  • Overcomplicated Menu Order: Ying's order to the Burgeria employee (Mr. Mat) is a long order of sets and specifics, and her Motor Mouth doesn't help. She even goes to the restaurant herself to repeat the order, then after writing it down, the Burgeria employee looks up and is confused to find no one at the counter (as she used her Super-Speed offscreen).
  • Unflinching Walk: BoBoiBoy sends several lightning bolts towards Adu Du's barrage of missiles, causing a dust cloud of an explosion. As the dust cloud fades away, BoBoiBoy walks out of it and towards the alien enemies with a determined expression. This scene later became part of the intro sequence.
  • We Will Meet Again: After his defeat, Adu Du calls for his spaceship and proclaims that he will return, but the Tractor Beam is painfully slow, Adu Du repeats "I will return!" twice, and BoBoiBoy has enough time to strike him with one more lightning bolt on the way up.

"I Will Return!"

For the first instance in the show where Adu Du swears he'd return, his getaway tractor beam is too slow, and BoBoiBoy hits him with one more Lightning Bolt on the way up.

How well does it match the trope?
