Go To

Jefferson Pierce is still mourning the death of his long-time friend Detective Henderson. Meanwhile, Gambi is presented with an interesting opportunity. Lastly, Lynn and Jefferson are still not able to see eye to eye.

  • Bad Boss: While Lala doesn't kill any of his lieutenants this time, he threatens to in case they don't stop Thunder and Lightning from destroying another one of his shipments.
  • Da Chief: Henderson's successor is Ana Lopez, who plans on properly registering and overseeing all the Metahumans in Freeland.

  • Dead Man Writing: Henderson leaves a letter for Jefferson behind.
  • Drowning My Sorrows: After the argument with Anissa and Lynn regarding Tobias, Jefferson once again hits the bottle. Gambi snaps him out of it.
  • Dude, Where's My Respect?: Lala is pretty pissed about Tobias Whale's popularity, since he believes that he himself should be getting credit for helping the streets survive.
  • Eye Scream: Jefferson beats up the thug who shot Jennifer, and then blasts him right in the eyes with lightning to make sure he never shoots anyone again.
  • He's Back: Tobias Whale is fully back into the game, returning to Freeland and reinventing himself as a philanthropist. At the end of the episode, he even gets on the board of directors for the lab where Lynn works.
  • Inspector Javert: Since part of his license plate was unfortunately caught on camera, Lopez and Shakur start investigating Jefferson for putting the two racist cops in the hospital.

  • It's All My Fault: Jefferson blames himself for Henderson's death.
  • Lightning Can Do Anything: Jefferson is able to erase the two cops' recent memories of him attacking them by zapping them in the brain.
  • Lured into a Trap: After two of his shipments get destroyed by Thunder and Lightning, Lala equips his men with anti-meta guns and sets a trap, which they fall into, injuring Jennifer in the process.
  • Mob War: The 100 are stated in a news report to be in conflict with another group called the Kobra Cartel.
  • Not Wearing Tights: Jefferson has been refusing to wear his costume since Henderson's death. Yet he still uses his powers from time to time, which is pretty dangerous, as Gambi points out it can harm his nervous system (not to mention the risk of compromising his secret identity).
  • Oh, Crap!: The Pierces, when Tobias (whom they'd assumed was dead) pops up on TV presenting himself as Freeland's new benefactor.

  • Old Flame: Gambi is approached by a woman named Lauren about a job with a private company called Monovista International that is investing in Freeland (i.e. fleecing it.) Gambi turns down the job. When they depart, she gives him a kiss, as they were apparently an item back in the days.
  • Papa Wolf: Jefferson severely beats the thug who shot Jennifer with the anti-meta gun. According to Shakur and Lopez, he outright crippled the guy.
  • Rabid Cop: Two overzealous cops try to violently apprehend a black teenager for no apparent reason at the beginning of the episode. Jefferson puts them in the hospital for it.
  • Remember the New Guy?: Turns out Henderson had a protege named Hassan Shakur, who is bound to become Jefferson's new Friend on the Force. He has never been seen in past episodes.
  • The Shrink: Jefferson and Lynn are going to a couple counselor.
  • Talking to the Dead: Jefferson at Henderson's grave, at the beginning of the episode. He also talks to an illusion of his father.
  • Thou Shalt Not Kill: Jefferson is adamant that they not kill anyone, even Tobias, and is outraged at Anissa and Lynn for advocating such a thing, despite Anissa pointing out that she, Jennifer, and Lynn have all killed people before.
  • Time Skip: 1 year has passed since the Markovian Invasion. Jefferson has stopped being Black Lightning since, Grace is still in a coma and Tobias Whale has returned to Freeland.
  • Took a Level in Badass: Lynn is seen using the injection of Gravedigger's powers to stop crimes herself.
  • Villain with Good Publicity: Tobias is right back into this with the media hailing him as "saving" the very neighborhoods he controlled as a criminal.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: Jefferson is not amused when both Anissa and Lynn advocate for killing Tobias.
