As the battle continues, old alliances are revisited and new alliances forged.

  • Assassin Outclassin': Gambi foils (off-screen) another assassination attempt against him by one of Lady Eve's killer twins and cuts out his eye to send a message to her.
  • Battle in the Center of the Mind: Painkiller is constantly fighting Khalil from within, and at the end of the episode, he manages to break free from the firewall. While Khalil ultimately manages to defeat him, he still hurt Brandon, TC and even Jennifer in the process, which causes Jennifer to sever ties with him and Khalil running away again.

  • Better the Devil You Know: While his family is still uncomfortable with it due to the things he did to them, Jefferson has decided that it is better to fight alongside Odell than to give the city to the Markovians.
  • Can't Kill You, Still Need You: Brandon is still perfectly willing to kill Dr. Jace, but he has to relent due to the latter revealing information about his still alive father, who apparently had the same powers as him.
  • Ceiling Smash: How Gravedigger executes Colonel Mosin.
  • Composite Character: Gravedigger uses the general backstory and cross-shaped scar of Ulysses Hazard (the first Gravedigger); the name and power of Tyson Sykes (the Checkmate operative Gravedigger who gave himself telepathic abilities by injection); and elements of Marvel character Isaiah Bradley (enhanced physical abilities due to an experiment in which most unwillingly subjects died trying to create a Super-Soldier Serum).

  • The Dog Bites Back: Gravedigger defected to Markovia due to the racism he experienced at the hands of his fellow Americans, as well as the cruel experiments that turned him into a weapon.

  • Flashback: There are some detailing Gravedigger's backstory.
  • Forced to Watch: Painkiller wants to make Khalil watch him kill Jennifer and all of his friends wants he breaks free, which he almost achieves.

  • Honey Trap: Lady Eve has Lala's lieutenant Devonte seduced by one of her girls to get information on Lala, finding out that he is in possession of Proctor's briefcase.
  • Hypocrite: Jennifer accuses Anissa of this, due to the latter constantly telling her that Khalil is dangerous, or as she calls it a "wild animal", despite Grace literally roaming around Freeland as a leopard.
  • I Gave My Word: Odell actually keeps the agreement Jefferson and the ASA had and gives his entire team a clean slate.
  • Internal Reveal:
    • The rest of the Pierce family learns about Odell manipulating Jennifer into being his Child Soldier.
    • Also, Jefferson tells his family about saving the multiverse during the Crisis.
    • Gambi tells the Pierce's about the secret meta program that the US government has been running for decades.
  • It's All My Fault: Lynn and Jefferson each blame themselves for the state of their respective partner.
  • Kick the Dog:
    • Dr. Jace doesn't even seem to care that she is speaking with the son of the woman she brutally experimented on, which led to her death.
    • The Markovians attack the Perdi camp, massacring a good number of refugees and kidnapping Anaya and Thierry.
  • Not So Different: Gambi encourages Khalil to paint to cope with his PTSD, just like he did by tailoring.
  • Older Than They Look: Gravedigger, who was a Supersoldier back in World War 2.
  • Older Than They Think: In universe, the Gambi reveals that the US government has had a meta program running since World War II.
  • The Oner: There is one during the flashbacks showing Gravedigger fighting a group of German soldiers.
  • The Reveal: Gravedigger, real name Tyson Sykes, was the first documented, American meta. He has been active since World War II, and ever since he defected to Markovia, the US has been trying to recreate the original serum.
  • Trigger Phrase: Lady Eve, being the one who provided Tobias Whale with the technology for it, puts Lala in his place by saying his shutdown phrase. However, she then offers him to get rid off it and help him kill Tobias.
  • Wild Card: Lady Eve calls off the contract on Gambi's head and even gives him Proctor's briefcase, as she doesn't want her city to fall into the hands of the Markovians.
  • You Have Outlived Your Usefulness: Gravedigger executes Colonel Mosin, who has ceased being useful to him.
