Nick is bewitched by his cool new phone. A call from "Pharmacy Boy" turns Matthew into a nervous wreck. Jay finds a Netflix show made just for him.

Tropes:

  • Cut His Heart Out with a Spoon: Lola makes such a threat at the bailiff of the Judge Judy-esque show she was on.
Lola: (wielding the billy club at the bailiff) I will your smash brain into a smoothie and drink your thoughts!
  • Foreshadowing: When Jay discusses the magician show with his friends, Matthew refers to the magician as gay (said magician is implicitly bisexual, and later pansexual), and Jay corrects him. This foreshadows Jay's own coming out as bisexual five episodes later being met with a similar reaction from Matthew.
  • Lead You Can Relate To: In-universe, the Netflix show that Jay watches is about a magician exploring their sexuality, much like Jay (who also dabbles in the art of magic) did in the previous season. Near the end, however, Jay ends up disappointed, since the magician comes to the conclusion that they are pansexual and non-binary, rather than bisexual and male like Jay.
  • Leaning on the Fourth Wall: When Andrew asks what Coach Steve is doing at the dinner party, Coach Steve says he's a caterer now and that he gets a new job every episode.
  • Once Done, Never Forgotten: Lars and Missy are still not over Andrew acting out in “My Furry Valentine.” Lars sardonically asks if Andrew is going to pull him out of his chair again and Missy is still visibly uncomfortable around him, despite Andrew's apology.
  • Status Quo Is God: A more trivial yet justified example when Andrew’s hair grows back to regular size and remains like that for the rest of season 3.
  • Toxic Friend Influence: Nick’s new cellphone is anthropomorphic and encourages Nick to exhibit bad behavior.
