A famous scientist who graduated at S.F.I.T. is giving a lecture but Hiro isn't allowed to attend because of his age.

Tropes:

  • Accidental Misnaming: Trevor calls Hiro "Kiro".
  • Alliterative Name: Trevor Trengrove and Wendy Wower.
  • Bad Liar: It quickly becomes obvious that something's up with Trengrove, because he seems to have no clue what the things he has the team working on actually are.
  • Balloonacy: Hiro inflates Baymax with helium so he can float over the roof and spy on Trevor.
  • Blackmail: Yama holds evidence of Trevor's plagiarism to force the latter to work for him.
  • Broken Pedestal: Hiro was Trevor Trengrove's biggest fan, up until it was revealed that his thesis was stolen from Wendy Wower. Hiro realizes his true idol had been right in front of him this whole time, and decides to give her a tour of the campus.
  • Call-Back: Wendy Wower examines Baymax the same way Hiro did in the movie.
  • Chekhov's Gun: The baking soda volcanos from Wendy's class. First they are used to distract Yama and his guards, then Fred uses the vinegar and baking soda reaction to defeat Yama's robot.
  • Creepy Child: The kid in Wendy's workshop with the skull on his shirt.
Kid: (About a baking soda volcano) I can hear the tiny screams!
  • Easily Forgiven: Despite not being on speaking terms for many years, Wendy was more than grateful that Trevor gave her back her thesis and will admit to what he did.
  • Fan Community Nicknames: In-Universe example. Wendy's fans are called "Woweroos."
  • Foreshadowing: The fact that Wendy doesn't exactly admit her time studying alongside Trevor was exciting was a hint he's not what Hiro expected.
  • Innocuously Important Episode: The episode initially seems to be a standalone, but then, within the last moments of the episode, reveals significant information that not only indicates that Granville's not being entirely honest about her time as SFIT, but shows that Obake may have been one of her students.
  • Jerkass Realization: Trevor ended up being a glory-mongering jerk who stole Wendy's thesis, but after all the trouble he was put through with the blackmail, Trengrove does feel bad for it all and decides he will tell the world and give Wendy the credit she deserves in the first place.
  • Manchild: Fred, who is still a huge Wendy Wower fan and attends her class among much younger children. Even Wendy is a bit weirded out by it.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: Thanks to Trevor, the team minus Hiro helps rebuild Mega Yama and make it tougher.
  • Not So Above It All: Karmi, despite referring to Wendy as "a fake scientist from a kid's show" when talking to Hiro, is next seen singing a song for the Woweroos.
  • Oh, Crap!: Hiro reacts this way when Baymax sees Yama standing outside the building Trevor is giving his lecture in. Later, the entire team has this reaction when they find out the projects Trengrove had GoGo, Honey Lemon and Wasabi working on were upgrades for Mega Yama.
  • Plagiarism in Fiction: Trevor stole Wendy's thesis.
  • The Reveal: Professor Granville started teaching at S.F.I.T. under Robert Callaghan way before Hiro initially assumed.
  • Sitcom Archnemesis: Fred sees one of the girls on Wendy's class as a rival.
  • Spit Take: Hiro gives one upon being told Wendy learned under Professor Granville.
  • Rule of Three: While making a baking soda volcano, a kid decides to wear three sets of goggles.
  • Wham Shot: What appears to be a younger version of Obake is seen next to Granville in an old yearbook photo.
