Only a Big Eater can eat that much.
Desserted

When Cricket treats the family to a free dinner at a restaurant, Bill worries over how he's going to pay for it.

"Desserted" contains examples of:

  • Artistic License – Economics: Since when did a bank in Big City have no money? Lots of banks usually have money safely stored. Bill even lampshades this.
  • Balloon Belly: Cricket manages to eat the entire sundae, leaving him incredibly bloated.
  • Big "NO!": The fly that Cricket contaminates the sundae with appears to say this after it gets hit by Cricket's spitball.
  • Brain Freeze: Tilly suffers from it while trying to eat the sundae. An X-ray view shows her brain not just freezing but snapping in half.
  • Bottle Episode: The entire episode is set in the restaurant the Greens visit, particularly the table they sit at.
  • Counterfeit Cash: Cricket replaced all of Bill's money with "Cricket Bucks" which are not monetary (as said so on the dollar), as a failsafe in case his family wouldn't go through with his plan.
  • Crazy-Prepared: Cricket knew ahead of time his family wouldn't go through with his "big meal, mega dessert challenge" plan, so he switched all of Bill's money with fake cash so there's no way out.
  • Didn't Think This Through: Not only did Cricket not tell anyone about the Crispy's Sundae Challenge, he made them order too much food beforehand so they're now too stuffed to eat one bite. As if that wasn't bad enough, he knew that his family wouldn't go along with his plan to eat for free if they knew about it, so he replaced Bill's money with fake cash, rendering him unable to pay for the food bill.
  • Dine and Dash: This is essentially what Cricket planned as he knew he had no way of affording the food he ordered. None of his family is happy when they find out about this.
  • Disappointed in You: Bill says this word-per-word to Cricket when he calls him out for the dinner becoming a disaster.
  • Ethereal Choir: During the overcrank when Cricket is trying to eat the last scoop of ice cream, this plays in the background.
  • Faked Food Contaminant: In an attempt to get out of the Crispy's Sundae Challenge, Cricket discovers a loophole and puts a fly in the giant sundae. Unfortunately for him, he forgot to Read the Fine Print for said rule and that just means they have to give him a new sundae and restart the challenge.
  • Hallucinations: Cricket hallucinates Bill's face in the sundae telling him all good things must be earned and asks how he expects to earn all this.
  • Kitschy Themed Restaurant: Crispy's is one of these.
  • Loophole Abuse: To try to get out of completing the challenge, Cricket looks over the Crispy's rulebook and finds that if the sundae is contaminated they have to take it back. Unfortunately, he forgot to Read the Fine Print that says the sundae will be replaced and the challenge restarted from the beginning.
  • Mega Meal Challenge: Cricket's plan to pay for the meal is to complete the Crispy's Sundae Challenge, in which they have to eat a giant sundae in under one hour and get their dinner for free. Thing is, he didn't tell his family this and by the time his plan is revealed, everyone is too full to completely eat the ice cream and they can't pay for the meal anyway since Cricket replaced all of Bill's money with fake cash, knowing they wouldn't go along with his plan.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: Cricket when he realizes his plan was stupid and just got his family into trouble. The family themselves also go through this shortly afterward; as mad as they are at his plan, they did not expect Cricket to try the challenge by himself and beg him to stop before he hurts himself.
  • Out-Gambitted: As a failsafe in case Bill finds out about Cricket's plan to have all their meals free, Cricket swapped all of Bill's money with fake cash so there's no way out.
  • Overcrank: When the last ice cream scoop is flying through the air.
  • Special Guest: Riki Lindhome as the waitress Gina.
  • Trailers Always Spoil: The first promo for Season 2B spoiled the end which features a gluttonous Cricket.
  • A Wild Rapper Appears!: During the waiters' performance about the Crispy's Sundae Challenge, Gina starts doing a rap as the sundae is brought out.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: None of the Greens shy from pointing out how Cricket really didn't think his plan through, especially when they find out he replaced Bill's money with fake cash so he wouldn't be able to pay.
Bill: This is how you were planning on paying for everything?!
Nancy: Cricket, if this was your plan, why didn't you tell us? We're too full!
Cricket: Well, I didn't want you holding back on dinner! Besides, there's always room for ice cream.
Bill: Now I've heard enough of this. I'm just going to pay for dinner and get us out of... (sees the fake money with Cricket's face on it) ...this. Cricket, where's my money?
Cricket: Well, I knew you wouldn't go through with my brilliant plan to treat y'all if you knew all the steps, so I replaced all your money with Cricket Bucks. They have no monetary value.
Gramma: Boy, have you lost your mind?!
    ...
Bill: Son, I'm disappointed in you.
Cricket: Wait, wait! Sure, my plan was stupid and I'm sorry for that, but I just wanted to treat my family to a free meal! Isn't that a nice thing?
Bill: You call this a nice thing? Everyone's miserable!
Nancy: Don't throw up, don't throw up. Urgh!
Tilly: Come on, Gramma. We gotta go.
Gramma: Just leave me here to die!
Bill: This is all because you tried to take a shortcut but there's just no such thing as a free meal! Speaking of which, I'm gonna go talk to the manager and figure out how we're gonna pay for dinner.
  • Wham Line:
    Bill: What'd you order, son?
Cricket: Oh, just a... li'l ice cream.
Tilly: That sounds excellent, brother. I hope you enjoy it.
Cricket: Well, I hope we all enjoy it. We're gonna have to.
Bill: What do you mean by that?
    • And then Bill hears one particular lyric of the song...
Bill: "Family eats for free"? What have you done, Cricket?
  • X-Ray of Pain: When Tilly gets Brain Freeze, a cross section of her head shows her brain freezing up and snapping in half.

It's ugly...but he loves it.
The Gifted

Tilly is worried Bill lies about Cricket's ugly Father's Day gifts and tries to prove him wrong.

"The Gifted" contains examples of:

  • Break the Cutie: The revelation that Bill thought the popsicle head Tilly made him was one of the bad presents puts her into a deep depression, which leads to her trying to destroy all her past gifts.
  • Call-Back: When Tilly tells Cricket she's been meaning to "toot her own horn", Cricket looks like he's trying to hold in laughter; it was established in "Impopstar" that the word "toot" makes Cricket laugh.
  • Convenience Store Gift Shopping: After rejecting all the Father's Day greeting cards, Gramma just picks out a random card for Bill; it turns out to be a sympathy card.
  • Continuity Nod: The Barry Cuda song is heard again, and Gramma is still bothered by it.
  • Crappy Homemade Gift: Tilly and Cricket give their father Bill homemade Father's Day gifts. Tilly creates bizarre sculptures of found objects, and Cricket gives Bill "Cricket Coupons", pieces of paper offering chores and good deeds. They begin to realize that their father is pretending to like their gifts because he loves his kids, and trick him into admitting it with a deliberately poorly-made sweater and a box full of spiders, which he fears. After this, Tilly tries to destroy her old gifts out of shame, but Bill stops her, telling her that he loves her gifts because they're unique and made by her.
  • Didn't Think This Through: Cricket's gifts to Bill, Cricket Coupons, are a low-effort gift that promises things Cricket doesn't actually want to do because he never expects Bill to ever redeem them. This naturally bites him in the butt because just because Bill never has redeemed them doesn't mean he never will.
  • Fainting: Tilly nearly faints when overhearing Bill saying he hated her gift.
  • Heroic BSoD: Tilly lapses into one upon learning Bill secretly hated her Father's Day gifts over the years.
  • Homemade Sweater from Hell: To test whether Bill actually love their homemade gifts or not, Cricket and Tilly make Bill a "sweater" made of an unwashed tablecloth, some string, and a couple of wristbands.
  • Oh, Crap!:
    • Tilly when Bill reveals his true thoughts about her gifts.
    • Cricket's response at the end when he discovers that Bill is going to redeem his coupons (which includes chores he doesn't want to do because he thought Bill wouldn't redeem them) is a stone faced "uh oh".
  • Sibling Rivalry: Understated but the plot is kicked off by Tilly condescendingly refusing to accept that Bill likes her and Cricket's gifts equally and assuming that he's lying to spare Cricket's feelings. It's a massive blow to her self-esteem when she learns that Bill wouldn't only lie to Cricket. Bill has to correct her from thinking that loving their gifts equally doesn't mean that making them is pointless, it's the thought that counts.
  • Spiders Are Scary: Bill is shown to have a fear of spiders when he reacts to one appearing on TV by freezing up. Tilly and Cricket later use this to test whether Bill really loves their presents by giving him a box full of spiders.
  • To the Tune of...: Cricket brags about being right with a ditty that sounds a lot like "Ninety-Nine Bottles of Beer".

Tilly's state of shock

When Tilly hears Bill mention one of the ugly Father's Day gifts he hated was her popsicle stick sculpture of himself, she loses it.

How well does it match the trope?
