You know he's evil because he doesn't pay the electricity bill.

Well, it's kinda complicated but let's just say I wasn't exactly a normal plumber before I retired.

After indirectly attacking Ben for an entire season, Vilgax finally shows up on Earth to get the Omnitrix himself.

Tropes:

  • Big Damn Heroes: Gwen and Max arrive to Vilgax's spaceship just before he can cut Ben's arm and get the Omnitrix.
  • Big "NO!":
    • Upgrade yells one of this when Vilgax is threatening Max and pushes him along with himself off the spaceship. Luckily Upgrade can glide.
    • Vilgax when the self-destruct launch begins while he's still aboard.
  • Big "YES!": Ben upon realizing he was saved from Vilgax's punch by randomly transforming into Ghostfreak.
  • Came Back Strong: After emerging from his Healing Vat, Vilgax is shown slightly more muscular than he was in the season premiere.
  • By the Lights of Their Eyes: Whenever Vilgax is hidden in shadows or smoke, his eyes glow red.
  • Description Cut: While they are travelling to Mount Rushmore, Ben sees a column of smoke coming from a nearby city. Max tells him that the local authorities must have everything under control. Cue Vilgax's flying robots rampaging through the city.
  • Evil Is Not Well-Lit: While inside his ship and his pod, we can only see Vilgax's red eyes.
  • Family-Friendly Firearms: The robbers from the beginning of the episode have a rifle-like weapon that shoots bolts of lightning.
  • Generation Xerox: After Vilgax learns Max activated the self-destruct behind his back.
Vilgax: TENNYSON! You are the thorn in my side!
Ben: [blasts him] Guess it runs in the family.
  • Growing Muscles Sequence: Vilgax does this before punching XLR8. Fortunately, the latter is fast enough to avoid getting hit.
  • I Never Told You My Name: Max uses Vilgax's name before Ben can tell him what it is, making it obvious that he already knows him.
  • In a Single Bound: After throwing him through several buildings, Vilgax catches up to Heatblast by jumping. He also does this to grab Stinkfly mid-flight and to climb Mount Rushmore in a few seconds.
  • Internal Reveal: "A child?! The Omnitrix is in the hands of a mere child?!"
  • It's a Long Story: When Gwen badgers him with questions about how he knows Vilgax, Max remarks, "It's kind of complicated."
  • Just a Kid: Vilgax reacts this way when he unmasks the one wearing the Omnitrix as a 10 year old boy, and says that, in hindsight, it makes sense because the watch was being used as a toy instead of a weapon of mass destruction (according to him anyway). He dismisses Ben for his feeble comprehension in regards the watch's capabilities, but is taken by surprise when he recognizes the boy's grandfather as an old nemesis.
  • Laser Blade: Vilgax almost uses one to cut Ben's arm.
  • Little "No":
    • Max when he sees Heatblast is fighting Vilgax.
    • Ghostfreak when he sees Vilgax has Gwen and Max.
  • Locked Out of the Loop: Gwen and Ben had no idea that Max was part of a secret organization that dealt with alien menaces on Earth (which is why he knew Vilgax) and Gwen demands an explanation because he doesn't properly explain the situation until Vilgax has Ben on his ship. Once he does, Max drives the Rust Bucket into the ship's hull, catching Ben and the squid-headed Galactic Conqueror by surprise.
  • Loyal Phlebotinum: Vilgax tries simply taking the Omnitrix from Ben but it activates an energy field that sends him flying against a wall. Amusingly, the Omnitrix apparently has no problem with letting its wielder die as long as it's not ripped off of him.
  • Monumental Damage: Vilgax destroys Theodore Roosevelt's face in Mount Rushmore while trying to punch Ben.
  • No-Sell: Vilgax completely ignores Heatblast's attacks and, later in the episode, Diamondhead breaks his fists while punching him.
  • Not Quite Flight: Upgrade stretches his body to glide after he throws himself with Vilgax off his spaceship.
  • Oh, Crap!: Ben when Vilgax deactivates his transformation into Stinkfly.
  • Punched Across the Room: Vilgax throws Heatblast through at least five buildings.
  • Punch! Punch! Punch! Uh Oh...: Whatever attack Ben throws at Vilgax, it doesn't work. Heatblast and Diamondhead both punched him with all they got, only to get slammed to the dirt for their troubles.
  • Say My Name: Well, last name. Vilgax shouts Max's last name when he learns the self-destruct sequence has been activated.
  • Self-Destruct Mechanism: Max sets Vilgax's ship to self destruct without him knowing until it's too late.
  • Shapeshifter Showoff Session: Ben randomly changes from alien form to alien form without control after his restraints receive a large amount of energy. This ranges from being really good (When he turns into Ghostfreak to phase through Vilgax's punch) or really bad (When he turns into Ripjaws without having access to water).
  • Suddenly Always Knew That: Grandpa Max knows how to fly a spaceship and Ben is appropriately shocked when he learns that. Gwen, on the other hand, says that with how much he hid from them, nothing surprises her anymore.
  • Understatement: The last line.
Ben: Grandpa, we need to talk.
  • Villain No Longer Idle: After being confined to a Healing Vat for the whole season, Vilgax emerges, enhanced, and decides to go after Ben himself.
  • Visionary Villain: Vilgax says to Ben that he's not out to claim the Omnitrix so that he can use it. Instead, he wants to create an Omnitrix for every soldier in a massive army that he will use to conquer the universe.
  • Wham Line: A HUGE one. When Max sees Vilgax:
    Max: No... it can't be…
  • Wham Shot: Upon capturing Stinkfly, Vilgax reverts Ben by touching the visible Omnitrix faceplate, indicating that it has more capabilities than Ben is aware of.
Ben: Hey! How'd you do that?!
  • "You!" Exclamation: Heatblast upon meeting Vilgax, recognizing him as the alien from his visions.

A MERE CHILD?!

When Vilgax captures Stinkfly, he deactivates the Omnitrix, allowing him to finally see what Ben really looks like, and is shocked to discover that he's only ten-years old.

How well does it match the trope?
