Recap / Batman The Brave And The Bold S 1 E 18 The Color Of Revenge

Go To

Teaser: Years ago, the Dynamic Duo of Batman and Robin stop Crazy Quilt's latest art theft.

Main Plot: In present day, Robin is now a solo hero in Bludhaven. However, Batman has news for the older Boy Wonder: Crazy Quilt has escaped jail, and he wants revenge on Robin for blinding him. Can the two reconcile to stop the mad artist?

  • Alien Sky: Somehow, Crazy Quilt was able to create an illusion (or something) that turned the moon into a blinking eye. Just to send a Morse code message to Robin.
  • Bathos: Robin vents about his issues with Batman to the blue henchman, then tells him "thanks for listening".
  • Best Served Cold: Crazy Quilt spent years in prison before escaping to enact revenge on Robin, the boy who made him blind.
  • Character Tics: Robin's "Gosh" tic from the Adam West show is brought back for his appearance in the prologue. Adult Robin does it again briefly, by accident.
  • Calling the Old Man Out: Robin does this when Batman asks him to untie him, telling him to stop treating him like a child.
  • Composite Character: This Robin operates in Bludhaven like Nightwing did, but wears the outfit Earth-2 Robin wore as an adult.
  • Mad Artist: How Crazy Quilt is portrayed, as opposed to just being a crook hampered by a visual deficiency.
  • Mythology Gag: The opening teaser contains several references to the classic 60s Batman, like the entrance to the Batcave and Robin using his old "Holy-" catchphrase.
  • Not So Above It All: While the adult Robin doesn't like being reminded of the humiliations he feels like he endured as a sidekick, he still makes a pun when facing the red henchman. "This is just red-undant!"
  • Secret Test of Character: When Batman asks Robin to untie him from the wall, he actually was able to untie himself without aid. He was only asking Robin to do it out of habit.
  • Strictly Formula: The formula of the episodes having two parts, with the first one featuring an unrelated team-up with another hero or character(s) is mostly averted in this episode, as the prologue is instead the first part of the story that is continued after the intro.
  • Tuckerization: Batman mentions an address in the neighborhood "Haney and Aparo". Bob Haney and Jim Aparo worked on many of the stories for the original Brave and The Bold comic after it became a Batman team-up book, Haney doing the writing and Aparo drawing.
