First Released: November 11th, 2017
A mother reads a bedtime story to her son after a nightmare. An exceptional girl runs away from her monsters.

No Monsters contains examples of:

  • A Day in the Limelight: This is the first short to follow two separate plots:
    • The first plot follows a boy having nightmares, as he secretly realizes that Autodale is not a happy, healthy place. His mother is able to assure him all is well with a storybook and he is safely able to go to sleep.
    • The second follows an unnamed woman who has been branded Exceptional and tries to escape the fate that awaits her. She takes shelter at an execution site for Uglies, who point her out to the Handymen. She is then abducted and sliced apart until she is just a head, lungs, and a heart suspended from cables in the lair of the Matriarch, in order to run the town.
  • Assimilation Plot: What becomes of Exceptional people: they are captured and cannibalized until they are nothing more than a head and a few organs suspended from cables in the Matriarch's lair.
  • Body Horror: What becomes of Exceptional people: they have most of their organs removed, suspended from cables.
  • Downer Ending: The Exceptional woman is captured by the Handymen and forcibly assimilated. Meanwhile, the little boy believes the lies of Autodale, but judging from his mother's words, he will follow the Exceptional woman's path when he grows up.
  • Wham Shot: The Exceptional woman's mask, with "Exceptional" written on it. This is followed by the sight of what remains of her.
