Recap / Archer S 7 E 7 Double Indecency

Go To

The Zissners hire the agency to catch their respective spouses in the act with another person, as both Barbie and Donald Zissner think the other person is cheating on them. Chery gives vague dates to two members of the team (Malory and Archer), who both split up and form two separate groups (men and women) to make bets on who would be able to seduce each partner, and neither group realises they've done this, and lie to one another when confronted. Hilarity Ensues.

Tropes

  • The Bet: The majority of the payment is wagered on who can successfully seduce the target:
    • For Barbie: Archer bets on Krieger while Ray bets on Cyril.
    • For Donald: Lana bets on Pam while Malory bets on Cheryl.
  • Chairman of the Brawl: Archer gets three chairs smashed over his head in about three seconds.
    • Subverted with Krieger - he neither lands nor takes a hit, making kung fu poses around and through the brawl.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: Not even the hotel's security can stand up to an understandably upset Figgis Detective Agency. Even Malory joins in on the fun!
  • Everyone Has Standards: Archer planned on seducing Barbie, until he remembers his relationship with Lana.
  • "Fawlty Towers" Plot: Probably the most layered one in the entire shows' run. The two groups have ample opportunity to explain what's going on, but they both maintain the lie that everything is fine. There are a lot of Strange Minds Think Alike moments, where pieces of dialog are repeated between each group (raising the odds, cancelling the bets, cheating on one another, not telling either group what they were doing etc.). As per the trope, this breaks down spectacularly at the end, and ends in a bar fight after insults are thrown around.
  • For the Lulz: Turns out Cheryl left the messages vague on purpose for kicks.
Cheryl: I wanted to see what happened.
  • Hypocritical Heartwarming: The gang tends to insult Pam in various degrees. However, when Zissner insults her and Cheryl, they lose their shit. It shows just how close they are despite constantly infighting throughout the series.
Pam: Goddamn, I wish I was married.
Zissner: ARGH! YOU ARE ALL SO FREAKIN' SUED!
Archer: Shut up! *looks at Lana* And you were just gonna do it?!
    Lana: Not me!
    Archer: Wh— MOTHER?
Malory: NO! You idiot! One of those two!
Zissner: Heh, who? Scarrah Fawcett and Baby Huey?
    * Everyone in the Figgis Agency immediately gets angry as Pam starts bawling. *
    Ray: BITCH, YOU BETTER APOLOGIZE!
    Zissner: Or what?
Archer: OR THIS! *throws a bottle at one of the bodyguards, igniting the brawl*
  • The Reveal: The job each Zissner gave were to tape each other's infidelities, leading to The Bet for the gang. When they all meet up at the same place, Cyril deduces that both Zissners are fans of fetishizing the deed, and thus orchestrated both jobs so they can enjoy the tapes afterwards. Donald originally had the boys sign a Non-Disclosure Agreement to keep quiet, but they stopped caring at this point.
  • They Clean Up Nicely: Depends on who you view, and who wants to double or un-double the bet. Archer outright refuses because he already has low standards for Krieger.
  • Strange Minds Think Alike: A Running Gag in the episode is how much both teams think like one another, and repeatedly make the same statements in roundabout ways; such as calling off bets and getting bad results from dressing up their chosen person (Archer for Krieger, Lana for Pam).

ISIS may be a group of jerks, but they're jerks who care about each other.
