A Very Very Very Very Special Show: Desperately wanting to win a humanitarian award, the Warners attempt to stuff this episode with as many socially conscious and environmentally aware messages as possible.
Night of the Living Buttons: Mindy and Buttons get lost in the nearby graveyard.
Soda Jerk: After drinking a milkshake too fast, Wakko gets the chronic hiccups, baffling the world.
A Very Very Very Very Special Show contains examples of:
- All for Nothing: Since the show ends up losing the award anyway, they go back to their zany selves.
- Award Bait: The only reason the Warners are going the Very Special Episode route in this segment is because the show is nominated for a humanitarian award, with them reverting back to the regular ways when they don't win.
- Green Aesop: Among the messages attempted to push include saving the whales, not littering, and carpooling or taking the bus instead of driving.
- Male Gaze: Dot "teaches" Yakko and Wakko the dangers of objectifying women as they stare uncomfortably at Hello Nurse.
- No Smoking: For good measure, the Warners stop Plotz from smoking a cigar.
- Very Special Episode: It's right there in the title, but this more or less parodies the trope.
Night of the Living Buttons contains examples of:
- The Cameo: Zombie versions of the Warners stalk the graveyard at one point.
- Chasing a Butterfly: This time, the butterfly takes the form of a frog.
- Crossover Punchline: The frog turns out to be none other than Michigan J. Frog, which ends up scaring both Mindy and Buttons.
- Episode of the Dead: Buttons attempts to protect Mindy from the zombies that inhabit the graveyard.
- Faux Horrific: Mindy and Buttons' reaction to seeing Michigan J. Frog. This was probably the writers' swipe at The WB's use of the character as its mascot.
- Michael Jackson's Thriller Parody: With Buttons in the Michael role.
Soda Jerk contains examples of:
- The Bus Came Back: Dot attempts to scare Wakko with her pet, who hadn't been seen since season 1.
- Diegetic Soundtrack Usage:
- The soda jerk whistles the theme from sister show ''Pinky and the Brain while making the Warners' milkshakes.
- At the end, when Wakko's hiccups mysteriously disappear, he innocently whistles the Animaniacs theme.
- Hiccup Hijinks: This is the second short to involve this after a Goodfeathers short. This time, the victim is Wakko.
- The Ludovico Technique: Yakko and Dot attempt this on Wakko by forcing him to watch the scariest thing ever... a Bob Hope special!
- Shout-Out: At one point, Gort attempts to cure Wakko of his hiccups.
