"La La Law" contains examples of:
- The Cameo: Cooper DeVille from Tiny Toon Adventures is part of the jury, as are MacArthur, Emily, and Amanda Duff, who are Elmyra's respective father, mother, and older sister, as seen in the two "Elmyra's Family" episodes.
- The Mime also appears as the Warners' "Silent Partner" in their law firm. Of course, he endures some cartoon physical harm.
- Courtroom Episode: Natch.
- Literal Metaphor: Yakko "badgers" the witness by holding a badger in front of her face. That being said, the badger doesn't look very much like an actual badger...
- Shout-Out: The whole short is a parody of L.A. Law, which was in its final season at the time.
"Cat on a Hot Steel Beam" contains examples of:
- Badly Battered Babysitter: Buttons. He gets tangled in Mary Melody's jump rope, run over by cars, covered in quick-drying cement, smashed by a pile driver, barely manages not to fall off a building, runs head-first into a girder, builds a bridge from household objects that leads to the moon, falls back to Earth, and is rescued by some construction workers and the fire department just to keep both Mindy and the kitten safe.
- Bittersweet Ending: Both Mindy and the kitten end up safe and rescued by the construction workers and the fire department, but Mindy's parents punish Buttons, accusing him of being the one who chased the kitten and put Mindy in danger.
- The Cameo:
- Mary Melody from Tiny Toon Adventures appears at one point, as does Amanda Duff.
- Yakko, Wakko, Dot and Ralph run by Buttons in the under construction building.
- Buttons encounters Marvin the Martian on the moon.
Marvin: Greetings, Earth Dog. - Chasing a Butterfly: The plot of this episode is set off when Mindy chases a kitten.
- Construction Zone Calamity: Mindy wanders into a construction area, and Buttons has to scramble to keep her out of danger.
- Never My Fault: Mindy's parents are quick to blame Buttons for endangering Mindy and chasing the kitten when he was actually trying to keep them both safe, even though they were inside watching television instead of their own daughter.
- Shout-Out: Expies of Popeye and Tom and Jerry run by Buttons in the building being constructed.
- Social Services Does Not Exist: A couple of construction workers notice Mindy running around the construction site. A large crowd sees her rescued by emergency crews while Mindy's parents blame Buttons. This trope is the only reason that Mindy's parents weren't arrested on the spot for gross neglect and child endangerment and Mindy wasn't put in foster care.
- Squashed Flat:
- Buttons chases Mindy across a crosswalk. Mindy makes it safely across because the light is red when she crosses. Buttons, however, is not so lucky, as when the light turns green, the cars run him over, flattening him.
- After the pile driver frees Buttons from the quick-drying cement that covered him, it pounds him again, flattening him.
- Wet Cement Gag: Buttons chases Mindy through a mortar filled with wet cement. Buttons gets covered in the wet cement, which turns out to be quick-drying. He chases Mindy across a pile driver, which frees him from the cement, but then flattens him.
Ending Tower gag: "Chowabunga!"- Yakko, Wakko, and Dot
