Tropes

  • Call-Back: Piney's spirit returns from the afterlife to give Julien advice one more time.
  • Cannot Spit It Out: Once again, Julien has a hard time bringing himself to apologize to Maurice for his actions. He struggles even when opening his heart in the form of song in private.
Julien: Momo? Are you out there? Are you scared and all alone? Good! I'm glad! No, that's not right. And I miss you, please come home.
  • Continuity Nod: Julien has a hard time remembering who Karl is. When Clover tries to explain, Julien keeps mistaking the description for several other enemies of his. Julien even mentions Skinny Carmine and the Yamburgler, two villains who were only mentioned by name in Poll Position.
  • Distant Duet: After Maurice leaves the kingdom, they both sing the same song wishing they handled things differently.
    Julien: Oh Momo!
    Maurice: King Julien!
Julien and Maurice: Save me from this abyss! We're star-crossed brothers from different mothers, how did it come to this?
  • Literal Metaphor: Julien cries over a picture of him and Maurice and remarks it's like Maurice is fading right before his eyes, as Maurice's image literally fades out due to Julien's tears.
  • Literal-Minded: The jumping rats have a problem with this. Maurice trying to compliment them by saying they're doing a "bang up job" causes them to immediately stop what they're doing and start destroying things (doing a bang up job) instead. This takes a darker turn later in the episode when they are present for a fight between Maurice and Julien and take Maurice wishing to never see Julien again as an instruction to have Julien assassinated.
  • Too Dumb to Live: Left to their own devices, the jumping rats first instinct is to build a maze to hide their food in, which leads to them being unable to find it.
