The survivors figure out the secret to the Final Killing Game, and reach a conclusion on who the mastermind is.

  • Call-Back: The first scene of the anime shows the survivors of Hope's Peak opening the front door to the outside world, mirroring the ending scene of the first game.
  • The Cameo: The victims of the first Killing Game (and Kyoko) appear in Makoto's dream.
  • Driven to Suicide: The attacker is the victim, brainwashed into killing themselves.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: Sakakura cut off his arm to remove his bracelet, so that he'd be able to stay awake during the attack phase. This allows him to interrupt Naegi's despair-induced suicide attempt, but causes him to bleed out after shutting off the power switches.
  • Heroic Willpower: With one foot on the grave, bleeding from various holes all over his body, Sakakura still could move enough to fight off a brainwashed Naegi and ultimately save the day by shutting off the power.
  • I Never Said It Was Poison: A non-accusatory example, but when Naegi tries to ask Mitarai about the brainwashing video, Mitarai immediately responds saying he wasn't the one who did it. Naegi retorts that he didn't say he was...
  • Mind-Control Eyes: Victims of "Monokuma's Gloomy Sunday" gain swirly red eyes, reminiscent of the swirly black-and-white eyes of Despair seen on Junko in the first game and Class 77 in Despair-side Episode 10.
  • Nightmare Sequence: Naegi has visions of all of his dead friends guilting him into suicide.
  • The Power of Love: Sakakura's love for Munakata drives him, even as he's nearly dead.
  • The Reveal: The attacker in the Final Killing Game turns out to be each victim, brainwashed into committing suicide.
  • The Stinger: Rescue teams are searching the rubble of the Future Foundation headquarters, Munakata laments arriving too late to apologize to Sakakura, and Mitarai explains how Junko used his techniques for the brainwashing video before getting a text from Tengan.
  • You Are Too Late: By the time Munakata arrives at the scene, Sakakura was already dead.
  • Wham Shot: Mitarai receiving a text message from Tengan.
