Go To

The eighteenth episode of Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog.

Scratch orders an Eagle-Copter kit from his favorite TV show, Edgar Eagle, to catch Sonic. When Sonic tricks Scratch into shooting himself out of the sky, Scratch gets amnesia and thinks he's really Edgar Eagle. When Farmer Peck's farm is under attack by Robotnik's machines, Sonic takes advantage of Scratch's amnesia to help him save the farm.

This episode provides examples of:

  • Alliterative Name: Edgar Eagle from his titular Show Within a Show.
  • Amnesiac Villain Joins the Heroes: When Scratch gets amnesia, Henrietta finds him, and Scratch thinks he's really Edgar Eagle. Sonic takes advantage of Scratch's amnesia to save Farmer Peck's farm from destruction from Robotnik's machines. Scratch ends up regaining his memories near the end of the episode.
  • Circling Birdies: When Scratch regains his memories, miniature versions of him fly around his head.
  • Comically Missing the Point: This exchange between Robotnik and Grounder as they watch Sonic on a montor:
Robotnik: Aha! At last, I've got him! The spiny little sap! Does he think he could sneeze at a genius of my caliber?
Grounder: Yeah, he could spread germs!
  • Damsel in Distress: Ellie in the Show Within a Show. Henrietta becomes this when she is captured by Grounder (and Scratch thinks her name is Ellie too). Robotnik threatens to barbecue her unless Sonic surrenders the remote to the machines, but Scratch manages to fight him off long enough for Sonic to rescue Henrietta.
  • A Day in the Limelight: This episode focuses primarily on Scratch.
  • Disguised in Drag: Sonic disguises himself as a female flight attendant as part of his plan to trick Scratch into shooting himself out of the sky.
  • Disqualification-Induced Victory: In this episode's "Sonic Says" segment, Sonic holds a race between Scratch and Edgar Eagle to determine who is the real Edgar Eagle. Scratch wins the race, but gets disqualified for not wearing his seat belt, leaving the real Edgar Eagle, who does, the winner by default.
  • Easy Amnesia: Scratch gets amnesia after Sonic tricks him into shooting himself out of the sky. Near the end of the episode, Scratch regains his memories after Robotnik kicks him into a wall.
  • Egging: Scratch adds an egg-bomb cannon to his Eagle-Copter to attack Sonic with.
  • Fire-Breathing Diner: Sonic, disguised as a female flight attendant, shoves a chili dog into Scratch's mouth. The spiciness of the chili causes Scratch to breathe fire, which Sonic puts out with a fire extinguisher as he says, "Sorry, sir. No smoking!"
  • Key Under the Doormat: When Sonic tries to get an amnesiac Scratch to tell him what he knows about Dr. Robotnik, Scratch recalls that Robotnik leaves the key to his fortress under his "Unwelcome" mat.
  • Idiosyncratic Wipes: After Scratch smashes his chicken-shaped bank, coins fly into the air, one of which is used as a transition to the next scene, where Scratch is in his bedroom, attempting to build his Eagle-Copter.
  • Impact Silhouette: After Scratch finishes building his Eagle-Copter, he flies it through the wall of his bedroom, leaving an Eagle-Copter shaped hole in it.
  • Is the Answer to This Question "Yes"?: This exchange after Farmer Peck explains his problem to Sonic:
Farmer Peck: What about it, Sonic? Can you help me?
Sonic: Do blue hedgehogs have red sneakers?
  • Leaning on the Fourth Wall: At the end of the episode, after Sonic gets the real Edgar Eagle to go on a date with Henrietta, he says, "Someday I might even have my own TV show like Edgar Eagle. We'll call it Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog!"
  • "Metaphor" Is My Middle Name: When an amnesiac Scratch tries to confront Robotnik's machines, Sonic warns him to get out of the way, lest he get destroyed. This exchange occurs:
Sonic: Stop foolin' around, will you? Those things are dangerous!
Scratch: Ha! "Danger" is Edgar Eagle's middle name!
  • Of Corsets Funny: Grounder attempts to dress Robotnik in a corset to make him look muscular for the grand opening of his new robot factory on Farmer Peck's farm. Unfortunately as a result, the buttons to Robotnik's military jacket pop off, one of which hits the control panel to the machines, causing them to go crazy.
  • On Second Thought: Sonic invokes the trope verbatim when his initial efforts to reverse Robotnik's machines for Farmer Peck backfire on him.
  • Piggy Bank: Scratch has a chicken-shaped bank, and uses the money from it to buy an Eagle-Copter kit.
  • Show Within a Show: Edgar Eagle, which Scratch, Grounder, and Henrietta are all fans of. This leads to Scratch ordering an Eagle-Copter kit in an advertisement after the show, and Henrietta mistaking Scratch for Edgar.
  • Would Hit a Girl: Robotnik calls himself "an equal-opportunity villain" before ordering Grounder to capture Henrietta.
