Recap / Adventures Of Sonic The Hedgehog S 01 E 015 Too Tall Tails

Go To

The fifteenth episode of Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog.

Robotnik, with the help of a tied up Professor Von Schlemmer, invents Gizmo Gas that makes objects larger. While Sonic and Tails are in Wienerville eating chili dogs, the machine explodes, causing Tails to become a giant, to which Sonic must find the cure.

This episode provides examples of:

  • Absent-Minded Professor: Professor Von Schlemmer. He may be smart enough to build something like a humongo gizmo trap, and have blueprints for a wiener launcher, but he confuses "Antidote" with "Anecdote".
  • Alliterative Title: Too Tall Tails.
  • Anthropomorphic Food: The citizens of Wienerville are all anthropomorphic hot dogs.
  • Attack of the 50-Foot Whatever: Tails becomes a giant thanks to Robotnik's Gizmo Gas. Being so big, he develops an appetite to match... which is bad since he's in a town full of walking, talking hot dogs!
  • Big Eater:
    • Tails' status as this is a major plot point in this episode, as when he gets bigger thanks to Robotnik's Gizmo Gas, the hungrier he gets and the more he eats.
    • In the "Sonic Says" segment, Tails is eating ice cream roughly the size of a mountain. As evident when the camera pans down showing the ice cream towering over Sonic. After Sonic teaches him (and the audience) about the importance of healthy eating with fruits, vegetables, fish, poultry, whole grains and dairy products, Tails finishes eating the entire ice cream by the time Sonic is done talking and is left clutching his stomach due to a stomach ache.
  • Harmless Freezing: At the end of this episode, Robotnik accidentally zaps himself, Scratch, and Grounder with his Insto-Freeze cannon. After being frozen, Robotnik spits out ice and says, "I hate that hedgehog!"
  • Hero with Bad Publicity: Robotnik makes Sonic and Tails this this by reminding the citizens of Wienerville what Tails did to their town.
  • Hoist by His Own Petard: Robotnik aims his Insto-Freeze Cannon at Tails, intending to freeze him. After Sonic manages to shrink Tails back to his normal size, the ray bounces off a canyon and zaps Robotnik, Scratch, and Grounder instead.
  • Impact Silhouette: Early in this episode, Coconuts chases after Sonic and Tails, Sonic builds a stone wall, and when Coconuts slides through it, he leaves a Coconuts-shaped hole in it.
  • Paper-Thin Disguise: Sonic disguises himself as a fitness coach to trick Scratch and Grounder into training for a bodybuilder's contest to get them to reveal the whereabouts of Von Schlemmer. When the bodybuilder's contest begins, Sonic removes his disguise and the robots are none the wiser.
  • Psycho for Hire: Scratch and Grounder are quick to bring the torture implements when Von Schlemmer says that he will crack under torture.
  • Removable Steering Wheel: Sonic purposely removes the steering wheel of the car he gives to Scratch and Grounder as a game show prize.
  • Ridiculously Fast Construction: When Sonic asks Von Schlemmer if he has the plans for a giant hot dog launcher, Von Schlemmer reveals that he does, and can have it finished in fifteen months. Sonic says he can build it in fifteen seconds, and does so.
  • Tickle Torture: Robotnik tickles Von Schlemmer's feet with a feather to get Von Schlemmer to tell him how to properly build his Humongo Gizmo.
  • Villain with Good Publicity: Robotnik manages to get the citizens of Wienerville on his side by bribing them with gifts.
  • Wedgie: Sonic literally hoists Von Schlemmer out of the bottomless pit in the middle of the Jungle Of Doom by the seat of his pants with a crane. By the time Sonic gets Von Schlemmer out, the pants rip.
