Hunson tries to reconnect with Marceline.

Tropes:

  • Bumbling Dad: While he was most certainly this before, Hunson really takes the cake in this episode, as now he's getting in the way of his daughter's personal life, shoving himself into her concert to assert that he's her father. This is all a part of Chicle's gambit to hopefully get rid of Marceline, using his stupidity and need to draw attention onto himself to make the three buff ghosts fight them.
  • Continuity Nod:
    • A flashback to Marceline's childhood has Hunson busting through a wall to tell her he was summoned by "some guy with glasses" (i.e. Simon shortly before he became Ice King), something mentioned in the comic tie-in for Stakes.
    • Marceline's vampire powers don't affect ghosts, something mentioned back in "Heat Signature".
  • Cool Sword: Finn gets yet another sword, known as the Night Sword. It comes equipped with Nightosphere magic, as well as a compass in the hilt.
  • Let's You and Him Fight: Chicle turns the ghosts against Hunson and Marceline, as Marceline is considered a threat to Uncle Gumbald's plans against Bubblegum.
  • Oblivious to Hints: When Finn lets it slip that Marcy has a concert that night, she hisses and signals him to stop talking, as she doesn't want Hunson to know. Jake thinks she's speaking "air mattress talk".
  • Paper-Thin Disguise: Chicle transforms into a ghost to sneak into the concert, but looks exactly the same as his living self, only being translucent, entirely bubblegum pink and lacking legs.
  • Restraining Bolt: Peppermint Butler allows Hunson back into Ooo, but uses a spell to restrain his powers so he won't go around eating people's souls.
  • Significant Double Casting: The backup vocals to "Slow Dance With You" (a love song) are performed by a ghost voiced by Hynden Walch, who also plays Princess Bubblegum.
  • There Was a Door: A flashback shows that Hudson first introduced himself to his daughter by bursting through the wall of her hut with the family axe, greeting her like she should know who he is, destroying her floor with the axe, then inviting her to go eat some souls. The confused look on little Marcy's face at the strange man says it all.
  • Violently Protective Girlfriend: Played With; While at this time it is ambiguous if Marceline and Bubblegum are dating, Chicle never-the-less treats Marceline as a massive threat that needs to be gotten rid of if there is any hope of taking out Bubblegum.
