BMO and Marceline swap stories about their recent adventures.
Tropes:
- Animation Bump: The stories BMO and Marceline tell are animated more fluidly, especially BMO's.
- Art Shift: The three stories told in the episode are each drawn in a different style.
- Call-Back: BMO and Marceline each tell their interpretation of the Islands and Elements arcs. BMO also comes to help Marceline with hunting vampires, referring to the Stakes arc which, according to Marceline, took place six months before.
- Crazy Memory: BMO's story of the boat trip with Finn and Jake makes absolutely no sense, and bears no resemblance to the actual events.
- Crossover Punchline: BMO's story includes a giant blue jay that made a lot of noise, which is basically a less anthropomorphic version of Mordecai from Regular Show. J.G. Quintel even provides his signature "Whoaaa!"
- Happier Home Movie: The USB drive Marceline found had pictures of her as a child with her mother. When BMO asks who they are, Marceline asks him to make up a story about them instead, choosing not to speak about it just yet.
- Hero of Another Story: Marceline attempted to save Bubblegum in the Elements arc, only to fall to despair and get assimilated.
- Offscreen Moment of Awesome: Assuming Marceline's story is free of embellishments, she was apparently able to fight off the Elemental contamination AND beat Patience St. Pim into submission, only accepting the candification after Bubblegum was too far gone to be saved.
- "Rashomon"-Style: Played with. The episode focuses on the past two arcs, but filtered through BMO and Marceline's attempts to honestly talk about their experiences, BMO's being more whimsical than the Island arc actually was, and Marceline presenting the prelude to the Elements arc by retelling the story with fictional characters in place of her, PB and Patience, and everybody turning into candy with everybody turning into potatoes.
